Sony Expands PS5 Audio Lineup With Pulse and Pulse Edge Wireless Headsets

Sony has expanded its PlayStation 5 audio ecosystem by unveiling two new wireless headsets, the standard PlayStation Pulse and the higher-end Pulse Edge. Both models incorporate studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers and PlayStation Link connectivity for lossless, low-latency audio transmission across the PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac.
The hardware builds on foundational acoustic technology introduced in Sony's Pulse Elite headset, which debuted in 2024 following the company's acquisition of specialty manufacturer Audeze. The new lineup is designed to improve spatial accuracy and sound separation, helping players identify directional cues such as footsteps or weapon reloads during competitive gaming sessions.

Planar Magnetic Drivers and Connectivity Mechanics

The acoustic architecture of both headsets relies on flat diaphragms suspended between magnets to reduce audio distortion and deliver cleaner bass reproduction. While both devices support simultaneous Bluetooth pairing alongside the PlayStation Link adapter, their internal magnet configurations differ significantly. The standard PlayStation Pulse features four magnets per planar driver, whereas the premium Pulse Edge incorporates eight magnets per driver, doubling the total magnet volume to achieve enhanced low-frequency depth and structural precision.
PlayStation Link connectivity allows users to transition audio signals seamlessly between supported hardware platforms without manual repairing. Furthermore, both headsets integrate built-in microphones equipped with artificial intelligence-based noise rejection to filter out ambient room sound during multiplayer voice chat sessions.

Premium Features of the Pulse Edge Model

The Pulse Edge distinguishes itself from the base version through several hardware enhancements and bundled accessories. Alongside its higher magnet count, the flagship model includes active noise cancellation to isolate users from external interference.
Voice communication on the Pulse Edge is managed via a detachable boom microphone, complemented by a secondary hidden microphone that automatically engages when the boom is removed. The headset also features integrated game audio and chat balance controls specifically mapped for PlayStation 5 operation, an auxiliary audio and microphone jack, and a protective carrying case fabricated from premium materials.

Launch Timeline and Market Availability

Sony confirmed initial release windows for the hardware during its September 2026 announcement, stating that the standard PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset will debut in select markets during the upcoming holiday season. The premium Pulse Edge Wireless Headset is scheduled to follow in early 2027.
Official pricing, pre-order start dates, and specific regional availability, including whether the hardware will launch in India, have not yet been disclosed by the company.
