Samsung Galaxy S27 Leaks Point to LPDDR6 Memory and New Pro Lineup

Samsung is preparing to reshape its flagship smartphone portfolio with the upcoming Galaxy S27 series, introducing a brand-new Pro tier that replaces the discontinued Edge lineup. Fresh industry leaks indicate that Samsung plans to debut the new family in the first quarter of 2027, positioning the devices directly against Apple's latest Pro offerings. While base models are expected to maintain familiar hardware configurations, upcoming high-end variants are slated for significant internal upgrades.

The structural shift involves moving away from the short-lived Edge branding, which was shelved after soft commercial performance following the Galaxy S25 generation. Instead, the Galaxy S27 series will scale across four distinct models comprising the standard Galaxy S27, the Galaxy S27 Plus, the newly introduced Galaxy S27 Pro, and the top-tier Galaxy S27 Ultra.

Industry reporting suggests that Samsung is evaluating a sharper hardware divide between its standard and premium tiers. While the regular Galaxy S27 and S27 Plus are tipped to retain 12GB of RAM alongside 256GB and 512GB storage variants, the Pro and Ultra models are being considered for next-generation memory and storage standards. Specifically, leaks point to the adoption of LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.1 storage for the two premium devices, moving past the LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 storage utilized in previous iterations.

Despite these advanced capabilities, cost considerations remain a central hurdle for manufacturing. Reports indicate that Samsung is actively weighing component expenses, meaning that the latest memory and storage standards might stay restricted to selected models rather than deploying universally across the entire S27 family. The Ultra model is expected to offer a 1TB version paired with 16GB of RAM, while the Pro variant will pair its 12GB RAM configuration with storage options scaling from 256GB up to 1TB without reaching the 16GB tier.

Display technology is also receiving a segmented overhaul across the lineup. The Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra are tipped to feature Samsung's advanced M16 OLED panels, designed to enhance brightness, color reproduction, and power efficiency while supporting COE technology and a specialized privacy display feature. In contrast, the standard Galaxy S27 and S27 Plus models are expected to move up to M14 panels, aligning with the display grade previously found on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Regarding technical details, the Privacy Display relies on Samsung Display's Flex Magic Pixel OLED panels, incorporating a tall black matrix over half of the pixels to restrict viewing angles. Historically, Samsung has maintained specific release schedules for its Galaxy S devices, such as announcing the Galaxy S26 series on February 25, 2026.

Physical dimensions will further differentiate the top-end offerings. The Galaxy S27 Pro is reported to feature a 6.7-inch display, whereas the larger Galaxy S27 Ultra will house a 6.9-inch screen alongside dedicated S Pen support. Both high-end handsets are expected to pack robust power systems, including a 5,200mAh battery paired with 60W wired charging capabilities.

Under the hood, Samsung is maintaining its regional processor distribution strategy. Reports outline that the company intends to deploy its in-house Exynos 2700 chipset in markets including the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, and India. Meanwhile, key markets such as North America and China will receive Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 processor.

The Exynos 2700 chip represents a major push by Samsung to increase semiconductor self-reliance and reduce external supply dependencies. Built to deliver thermal management and efficiency improvements, the processor will power variants of both the Pro and Ultra models as Samsung attempts to capture broader market share in the global flagship segment.
