Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 for Advanced AI Wearables

Qualcomm Technologies launched its Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 platform at the Snapdragon Summit 2026, introducing a dedicated architecture built to combine premium acoustic transmission with local artificial intelligence processing. The new platform targets next-generation personal devices including earbuds, headphones, open-ear audio gear, audio glasses, and camera-equipped wearables.
The system integrates on-device processing capabilities driven by an embedded neural processing unit capable of delivering up to 128 GOPS of acceleration. Qualcomm stated that the new architecture achieves double the AI performance of its predecessor while reducing power consumption by up to 40 percent and shrinking the silicon footprint by 30 percent.

Advanced On-Device Intelligence and Connectivity

Designed to support agent-powered interactive experiences, the platform enables real-time translation, contextual assistance, personalized hearing adjustments, and multimodal operations that coordinate audio and visual data streams. By shifting computation locally, devices can handle complex tasks without relying continuously on smartphone pairing.
To facilitate direct cloud connectivity, Qualcomm integrated micro-power Wi-Fi 6E operating across the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz spectrum bands. This addition allows Sound Apps and Agents technology to link wearables directly to cloud-based assistants and data services, offering higher data rates reaching up to 86 Mbps alongside traditional Bluetooth LE Audio support.

Acoustic Performance and Noise Cancellation

The platform maintains high-fidelity audio playback through support for aptX Lossless and Qualcomm XPAN technology, which extends connection ranges beyond standard Bluetooth limits. Voice clarity during telephone calls and interactive sessions is managed by fifth-generation Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation, cVc voice processing technology, and advanced multi-microphone configurations.
Qualcomm also introduced the Snapdragon Audio Sense Solution, pairing specialized hardware microphones with dedicated algorithms to improve environmental sound capture. At the summit, manufacturer Cleer demonstrated a concept device integrating audio, vision, and AI capabilities on the new platform.

Healthcare Partnerships and Commercial Availability

Parallel to the hardware announcement, Qualcomm and Global Health Connector established the Personal AI Health Alliance. Industry participants including Optum Health, Scripps Health, and Merck joined the initiative to explore how localized wearable AI can capture continuous health insights while preserving personal data privacy.
To accelerate commercialization, Qualcomm is providing reference designs for device manufacturers looking to prototype and deploy products based on the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 platform.
