Tata Safari EV Spied Testing With Triple-Screen Cabin Layout

Tata Motors is expanding its three-row electric vehicle portfolio with the upcoming Safari EV, which has been spotted undergoing road testing featuring a prominent triple-screen dashboard architecture. Recent spy photographs indicate that the flagship electric SUV borrows its multi-display configuration from the Sierra EV, establishing a distinct interior departure from both its internal-combustion counterpart and the five-seater Harrier EV.
The three-row electric model, expected to arrive around the festive season of 2026 or early 2027, is positioned as a competitor in the growing Indian electric utility vehicle sector. While the camouflaged test mule retains the traditional Safari silhouette defined by an upright rear profile, roof rails, and a roof-mounted spoiler, the cabin overhaul brings a major technological shift over existing Tata offerings.

Interior Technology and Co-Driver Display

The newly identified cabin configuration centers on a triple-screen dashboard layout that includes a 10.25-inch digital driver instrumentation screen, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen for infotainment and navigation, and an additional 12.3-inch dedicated passenger-side display. This third screen enables the front co-driver to stream video content or engage with gaming applications by pairing a Bluetooth gamepad or utilizing personal smartphones as controllers.
This multi-display arrangement elevates the flagship Safari EV above the Harrier EV, which limits front occupants to a dual-screen setup. Beyond entertainment features, the vehicle is anticipated to adopt advanced cabin technology from the Harrier EV ecosystem, featuring a digital inside rearview mirror with integrated dashcam capabilities, a 540-degree camera monitoring system, ventilated front seats, a JBL audio system, auto park assist, and Level 2 autonomous driver-assistance systems.

Battery Performance and Powertrain Architecture

Underneath the bodywork, the Safari EV is expected to share powertrain architectures with the Harrier EV, offering buyers a choice between 65kWh and 75kWh battery packs. The smaller 65kWh configuration pairs with a single rear-mounted electric motor delivering 238 horsepower and 315 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the larger 75kWh battery variant offers both rear-wheel-drive and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive layout generating a combined 313 horsepower and 504 Nm of torque.
Certified range figures tested under the MIDC cycle for the Harrier EV stand at 538 kilometers for the 65kWh rear-wheel-drive variant, 627 kilometers for the 75kWh rear-wheel-drive version, and 622 kilometers for the 75kWh all-wheel-drive model. Automotive analysts note that the larger physical footprint and heavier three-row architecture of the Safari EV may result in slightly reduced overall range figures when fully laden.

Market Positioning and Expected Pricing

In terms of market positioning, the Safari EV will occupy the top tier of Tata's passenger vehicle portfolio. The combustion-engine Safari currently commands a traditional price premium over the Harrier ranging from Rs 40,000 to Rs 80,000. Industry estimates place the upcoming electric variant's starting price between Rs 22 lakh and Rs 23 lakh, stretching up to Rs 31 lakh or Rs 32 lakh for top-tier all-wheel-drive trims.
This pricing structure places the model in direct competition with rivals such as the Mahindra XEV 9S in the three-row electric SUV segment. Official unveiling procedures are widely anticipated to take place at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo 2027, with final commercial availability dependent on manufacturing schedules.
