Hardware startup Aina unveiled a $399 smart ring on Thursday designed to act as a dedicated physical controller for autonomous artificial intelligence agents. The wearable device features an embedded display, a miniature joystick button, an integrated microphone, and an audio speaker to manage digital assistants without relying on smartphone screens.

Founded by engineer Apoorv Shankar, the startup contends that frequent smartphone notifications will create operational friction as proactive AI agents handle daily tasks. The finger-worn hardware allows users to instantly approve or reject proposed agent actions, including ride bookings, meeting schedules, and meal orders, using physical tactile inputs.

Hardware Specifications and Interface Controls

The $399 ring incorporates an interactive screen alongside a directional joystick that lets users navigate choices and accept or dismiss agent prompts with a single hand. Its integrated speaker and microphone enable users to conduct voice conversations with software assistants, record verbal memos, and answer cellular telephone calls directly from the finger.

The device incorporates Aina Voice to record verbal notes, competing against voice-enabled wearables including the Sandbar Stream and Pebble Index 01. Users can configure the tactile joystick to trigger immediate approvals or send customized directives to background software agents handling multi-step workflows.

Prototype Evolution and Venture Capital Backing

Aina operated in stealth development for 15 months prior to launching its commercial hardware product. The company previously demonstrated experimental concepts at CES 2026 under the name Project Mirage, including an early prototype ring designated Dune. Aina's 40-person team experimented with dozens of different hardware concepts before selecting the ring interface, according to SiliconANGLE.

Before developing wearable rings, the startup created Mirage, a three-key desktop device that let Mac users trigger software commands during video calls on platforms like Google Meet. Aina secured $5.5 million in seed venture funding in July to accelerate the engineering and volume manufacturing of its wearable computing platform.

Wearable Market Positioning and Alternatives

The device arrives as consumer technology companies explore dedicated physical form factors for generative software interaction. While low-cost audio wearables like Amazon's Bee devices retail between $75 and $100 focused primarily on voice transcription, Aina positioned its hardware as a premium decision controller for autonomous virtual agents.

Pre-orders opened on Thursday at an introductory price of $399 before the retail cost rises to $499 when shipping begins. The startup plans to expand software partnerships with third-party software developers to enable custom key mappings across productivity, communications, and enterprise workflow applications.

Background

The Aina titanium ring includes an 18-hour battery, an OLED display, and a mechanical shifter tracking thumb gestures in four directions, powered by a Context Aware Operating System, according to SiliconANGLE.
