Authorities in western Turkey have arrested an armed suspect following a deadly sequence of shootings across multiple rural villages that left eight people dead and one seriously injured. The armed attacks occurred in the western province of Afyonkarahisar on Thursday, with casualties discovered in several locations across three separate vehicles, according to local reports. Following an extensive manhunt spanning provincial boundaries, authorities later stated that the suspect had been arrested in Eskisehir province.

Casualties Across Rural Settlements

The fatal shootings unfolded across three rural communities in the province, according to state-run media. Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency reported that three individuals were killed near Ayazini village, while three others were killed near Kiyir village. In Yukaritandir village, two women were found injured and subsequently died in hospital. Local reporting indicated that two school teachers were among the dead following the shootings. A ninth individual was seriously injured during the armed attacks across the province. Law enforcement authorities apprehended the suspect in the Seyitgazi district of Eskişehir province.

Manhunt, Vehicle Abandonment, and Capture

The suspected gunman fled all three crime locations in a vehicle, prompting police to hunt for him. Local media reported that police officers sealed entryways into the affected rural settlements while initiating a widespread sweep to track down the perpetrator. Security camera footage aired by Turkish outlets depicted an individual dressed in dark outerwear and pale trousers, wearing eyeglasses and grasping a long firearm near a red minivan. Turkish newspaper Milliyet reported that a vehicle allegedly taken by the attacker was later found stuck in mud. The suspect abandoned the mud-stuck vehicle before fleeing on foot through the surrounding area.

Official Statements and Institutional Coordination

In a statement posted on social media, the Afyonkarahisar Governorate addressed the public regarding the ongoing provincial response. The governorate stated that all relevant state institutions have worked in coordination from the first moment and are meticulously carrying out the necessary work. The Afyonkarahisar governor's office stated that eight citizens lost their lives and one was seriously injured in the armed attacks, according to reporting by The Times of Israel.
