YouTube Unveils 30-Plus Features Including Conversational AI Editing and Shopping Expansion
YouTube unveiled more than 30 new features and products aimed at creators, artists, and viewers at its annual Made on YouTube event. The announcements span conversational AI editing tools, custom content feeds, episodic short-form series, and expanded e-commerce and brand partnership integrations designed to reshape how creators manage and monetize their channels.
The platform's new capabilities arrive alongside significant structural shifts in creator monetization, including tighter entry barriers for ad revenue sharing slated for February 2027. While ad eligibility thresholds are set to double, the newly introduced features focus heavily on expanding commerce, live-stream interaction, and brand deals within reach of smaller channels.
Starting February 1, 2027, incoming applicants must achieve 8,000 qualified watch hours within the prior 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the prior 90 days, while the subscriber requirement stays at 1,000. Additionally, internal metrics from Google recorded an average 20% conversion lift when creator partnerships were added to Demand Gen campaigns.
Conversational AI Editing and Shorts Expansion
YouTube is expanding its artificial intelligence capabilities into Shorts and the YouTube Create app through conversational editing tools. Creators will be able to select photos and video clips, generating an initial version through simple prompts. The tool can recommend structural changes, such as cutting lengthy pauses, rearranging clips, improving pace, and inserting text.
Creators can continue interacting with the AI through dialogue to refine drafts while retaining manual editing options. According to YouTube documentation, the conversational editing feature is scheduled to roll out globally on Android and iPhone starting in early 2027. This builds on earlier automated editing rollouts and the integration of Gemini Omni into creator workflows.
Creators utilizing artificial intelligence to generate media content must ensure outputs are marked in machine-readable formats and disclosed when constituting deep fakes. Meanwhile, creator-linked advertising has experienced rapid expansion, with industry estimates pointing to totals exceeding $44 billion by 2026.
Custom Feeds and Episodic Shorts Series
Content discovery is receiving major updates through Custom Feeds, which allow users to build dedicated video streams around specific interests, moods, and daily routines using conversational prompts. YouTube will generate personalized feeds that users can save and refresh as recommendations evolve, with an initial US rollout spanning web, mobile devices, and television.
Concurrently, YouTube is launching Shorts Series to group short-form videos into structured seasons and episodes. The format is tailored for microdramas and episodic storytelling, providing viewers with dedicated show feeds and watch buttons. This structural shift targets the rising popularity of short-form serial media observed across mobile viewing platforms.
Expanded Shopping and Commerce Infrastructure
YouTube is significantly widening its e-commerce footprint, targeting presence in 35 countries for its Shopping affiliate program by the close of 2026. This follows earlier market expansions in the United Kingdom, Mexico, and Argentina. The programme is tied to affiliate eligibility rules requiring a 500-subscriber baseline, contrasting with the stricter partner program thresholds.
In addition, YouTube is extending product tagging arrangements with Amazon, beginning with rollouts in India and Brazil before expanding further. The platform is also introducing Affiliate Campaigns, allowing brands to discover creators and dispatch targeted partnership offers combining flat fees with exclusive commission rates alongside automated product tag localization for international viewers.
Streamlined Brand Deals and Studio Analytics
YouTube Studio is evolving to handle complex production and business workflows through integrated artificial intelligence tools. Ask Studio will offer pre-publication feedback on titles, scripts, and pacing, while generating channel-aligned thumbnails and managing video A/B testing across up to three cuts to optimize audience retention.
Brand deal discovery is also being centralized. YouTube Creator Partnerships now operates across 20 countries, though minor discrepancies exist between internal help center listings and official blog figures. Furthermore, a new one-click code enables brand partners to easily review video performance and run paid media amplification via Demand Gen campaigns.
Moderation Enhancements and Live-Streaming Updates
Channel management protections are expanding with personalized comment moderation, which learns from a creator's manual removal history to hold similar incoming remarks for review in a dedicated tab without automatic deletion. Likeness protection is also receiving a major upgrade by combining facial detection with speaking voice detection to improve match accuracy against unauthorized deepfakes.
Live-streaming features include real-time auto-dubbing pilots in English and Spanish, alongside Live Showdowns that facilitate head-to-head co-streaming backed by fan funding mechanisms like Super Chats and direct gifts. These streaming additions aim to capture a larger share of daily live watch time originating from international audiences outside creators' home regions.
