Dr. Reddy's Secures Exclusive India Distribution Rights for Takeda Dengue Vaccine

Dr. Reddy's Laboratories has signed an exclusive commercial agreement with Japanese pharmaceutical major Takeda Pharmaceutical Company to promote and distribute the Qdenga dengue vaccine across India's private healthcare market. The partnership covers immunization access for both pediatric and adult populations, positioning the inoculation for a scheduled commercial launch in the first half of 2027.

The distribution pact builds on marketing authorisation granted by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) in July 2026. The regulatory clearance permits the administration of Qdenga to individuals ranging from 4 to 60 years of age, establishing it as the first dengue vaccine cleared for use in India.

Under the terms of the distribution arrangement, Dr. Reddy's will assume exclusive control over private-market distribution logistics, professional engagement with healthcare practitioners, and public disease awareness campaigns across the country. Meanwhile, Takeda Pharmaceutical will retain legal ownership, overall medical oversight, brand governance, and complete rights governing the public health immunization sector.

Industry analysts note that separating private commercial operations from public sector procurement allows the pharmaceutical partners to target urban and institutional private centers where demand for preventive vector-borne healthcare has accelerated. The private market focus provides an immediate commercial channel for the rollout ahead of broader public sector integration.

Qdenga is formulated as a two-dose immunization schedule, with each 0.5 milliliter dose administered three months apart. A key clinical advantage highlighted by health authorities is that the vaccine can be administered regardless of a patient's prior dengue infection history, completely eliminating the requirement for pre-vaccination screening procedures.

Global health bodies have tracked rising vector-borne infection rates, reporting a record 14.4 million dengue cases and 11,201 deaths worldwide in 2024. National surveillance data for the same period recorded 232,425 cases and 233 deaths in India, underscoring the public health backdrop for the upcoming 2027 rollout.

The commercial availability of Qdenga remains subject to the completion of applicable administrative and local regulatory processes in India. Company disclosures indicate that the vaccine is anticipated to reach private clinics and healthcare providers in the first half of 2027, subject to final clearance milestones.
