Dr Reddy's Partners with Takeda to Distribute Qdenga Dengue Vaccine in India

Dr Reddy's Laboratories has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Japanese drugmaker Takeda Pharmaceutical to promote and distribute the Qdenga dengue vaccine across India's private market. The agreement covers vaccination for both pediatric and adult populations, positioning the product as a major addition to India's commercial healthcare offerings ahead of a planned rollout.

The vaccine previously secured marketing authorisation from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation in July 2026, clearing it for use in individuals aged four to sixty years. Company timelines indicate that the vaccine is anticipated to become commercially available in the first half of 2027, pending the completion of remaining local regulatory processes.

Under the terms of the distribution pact, Dr Reddy's will manage exclusive private-market distribution, disease awareness campaigns, and healthcare professional engagement across the country. Meanwhile, Takeda will retain legal ownership, overall medical and brand oversight, and the rights governing the public market segment.

Administration of Qdenga requires a two-dose regimen of 0.5 milliliters per dose, given three months apart. Clinical guidelines established for the vaccine indicate that it can be administered regardless of prior dengue infection, thereby eliminating the necessity for pre-vaccination screening procedures.

Vector-borne viral infections such as dengue continue to expand globally, placing severe strains on public health infrastructure. The World Health Organization documented a record 14.4 million dengue cases and 11,201 deaths worldwide in 2024, reflecting surging transmission rates across tropical and subtropical regions.

Domestic figures from the same tracking period underscore the heavy local burden, with India recording 232,425 cases and 233 deaths in 2024. Public health authorities anticipate that the commercial introduction of India's first approved dengue vaccine will provide a vital tool for private immunization initiatives.

Market preparation is currently underway following the CDSCO clearance secured earlier in July. The corporate partners have stated that final availability remains subject to the completion of applicable administrative procedures with local authorities before commercial supplies reach clinics and hospitals in the first half of 2027.
