Three Youths Killed as Speeding BMW Plunges Off Mumbai Coastal Road Bridge

Three young men were killed and another sustained critical injuries early Sunday morning when a speeding luxury car crashed into a divider and plunged from the elevated stretch of Mumbai's Coastal Road. The accident occurred at approximately 5:20 a.m. near Lotus Jetty, opposite Lala Lajpatrai College, while the vehicle was traveling southbound from Marine Drive toward Haji Ali.

According to reports from the Coastal Road Control Room and local law enforcement, the driver lost control of the automobile due to excessive speed. The impact caused the luxury sedan to smash through the protective barrier and fall from the elevated freeway structure.

All four occupants were transported immediately following the crash to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation-run Nair Hospital by emergency responders. Medical personnel at the facility pronounced three of the victims dead upon arrival. The deceased were subsequently identified by authorities as Shanay Gajjal, 21, Dhirya Seth, 17, and Aditya Jakasania, 19.

The fourth occupant, identified as 23-year-old Aditya Oswal, suffered severe injuries in the plunge. Hospital officials admitted him to the trauma ward, where medical teams placed him under critical care treatment. Initial municipal records initially noted an unidentified 25-year-old man among the deceased alongside younger victims.

Police officials have initiated a formal inquiry to establish the precise circumstances leading up to the high-speed collision. Investigators are examining the condition of the roadway near Lotus Jetty and analyzing the vehicle's trajectory before it breached the divider.

The Mumbai Coastal Road functions as a 10.58-kilometer high-speed freeway corridor designed to connect Marine Drive in south Mumbai with the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Authorities are reviewing control room logs and gathering witness statements to map the timeline of the early morning transit.

The fatal incident follows other notable road safety occurrences in the wider metropolitan region. Just days prior, three individuals sustained critical injuries in Navi Mumbai when an off-road SUV struck pedestrians near PKC Hospital in Vashi, with the driver fleeing the scene.
