Police Search Former DMK Minister Anbil Mahesh's Residences in Multi-Crore School Fraud Probe

Police from the Central Crime Branch in Chennai conducted simultaneous searches on Wednesday morning at the residences of former Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi in Tiruchi and Chennai. The operation is part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged multi-crore fraud involving private school managements during his tenure under the previous Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government.

A five-member police team arrived at Mr. Poyyamozhi's residence located in Thennur Anna Nagar, Tiruchi, beginning their search operations at 7:30 a.m. on September 16, 2026. Investigators deployed personnel to secure the premises while examining documents and records associated with the financial inquiries.

The current raids follow an earlier case registered by the Central Crime Branch targeting large-scale financial irregularities. Investigators previously arrested B.T. Arasakumar on charges of collecting massive sums of money from private school managements across the state.

Police documents and preliminary inquiries indicate that the total amount collected through these alleged illicit transactions runs to around 100 crore rupees. The widening probe has now brought former ministerial properties under direct scrutiny as authorities trace the financial trails and operational networks involved in the school management fraud.

Investigators continue to analyze the physical records and electronic evidence gathered during Wednesday's searches across the Tiruchi and Chennai properties. The Central Crime Branch has not yet released a comprehensive inventory of seized materials or announced further summons related to the ongoing fraud case.
