Police Book DMK Leaders Over Remarks Against Tamil Nadu CM Vijay

Police in Tamil Nadu have registered cases against three senior DMK leaders following protests held on September 12, where they allegedly made derogatory remarks against Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and Law Minister C.T. Nirmal Kumar. The legal action follows demonstrations organized by the DMK to condemn the Chief Minister's address to the state Legislative Assembly on September 7.

The Greater Chennai Police and Kallakurichi police have initiated separate proceedings based on complaints regarding speeches delivered during these demonstrations. In Chennai, the Saidapet police registered a case against DMK deputy general secretary and Nilgiris MP A. Raja following a complaint filed by an individual named Karthik. The complaint alleges that the MP made defamatory comments against Energy Resources and Law Minister C.T. Nirmal Kumar during a protest in Saidapet.

Separately, the Chennai North Beach police registered a case against former minister and MLA P.K. Sekarbabu in connection with remarks made during the same protest event in Saidapet. In a parallel development, the Kallakurichi police booked Rishivandhiyam MLA Vasantham K. Karthikeyan for alleged defamatory statements made during a protest held in that district on the same day.

Beyond the initial filings in Chennai and Kallakurichi, authorities in Cuddalore have also registered separate cases involving Sekarbabu, Raja, and Karthikeyan. Law enforcement officials are currently examining video recordings of the speeches, the formal complaints, and other available materials to determine the next steps in the investigation. The cases have been filed under various legal provisions related to defamation and inflammatory speech, though specific sections were not detailed in the initial reports.
