Ultraviolette Delivers 183 X-47 Skyforce Electric Motorcycles to Kolkata Police

Ultraviolette Automotive has officially inducted 183 units of its new X-47 Skyforce electric motorcycle into the Kolkata Police fleet. The handover ceremony, held at the Lalbazar Police Headquarters, marks one of the largest deployments of electric motorcycles by an Indian police force to date. The Skyforce is a specialized patrol variant of the company's existing X-47 crossover platform, engineered specifically for law enforcement requirements.

Unlike standard consumer models, the X-47 Skyforce features an augmented electronics architecture designed to support a suite of police-duty equipment. The motorcycles are factory-fitted with sirens, hooters, a public address system, LED blinkers, and dedicated mounts for microphones and walkie-talkies. Additionally, the bikes are equipped with side panniers to accommodate essential operational gear. Ultraviolette stated that the fleet underwent extensive testing prior to the delivery to ensure the machines could handle the rigors of daily urban patrol duties.

Retaining the core specifications of the base X-47 crossover, the Skyforce variant is powered by a performance-focused electric powertrain capable of reaching a top speed of 145kph. The motorcycle offers an Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) range of 211km on a single charge, a figure intended to support officers during extended patrol shifts across diverse urban environments. The hardware includes 41mm upside-down front forks, a rear monoshock, and Bybre braking components featuring a 320mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc.

Beyond the immediate operational capabilities, both the manufacturer and the police department highlighted the economic rationale for the transition. By replacing or supplementing petrol-powered motorcycles with electric units, the force aims to lower long-term running and maintenance costs. Narayan Subramaniam, CEO and co-founder of Ultraviolette, described the deployment as a landmark moment for the company, noting that the Skyforce variant was developed as a tactical machine to adapt to the evolving needs of law enforcement. The motorcycles are now being integrated into day-to-day policing operations across Kolkata, signaling a broader shift toward sustainable mobility within the city's public service infrastructure.
