Tata Aeris Compact Sedan Launched in India at Rs 5.29 Lakh to Succeed Tigor

Tata Motors has launched the Aeris compact sedan in India at an introductory starting price of Rs 5.29 lakh, establishing a fresh nameplate that effectively replaces the outgoing Tigor model. Official bookings have opened across authorized dealerships and the manufacturer website, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin on October 11.

Bharat NCAP was announced in Delhi by Nitin Gadkari. Additionally, waiting period data for the Tata Aeris EV is not available on Cartrade.

The market share for sedans declined from 11.6% to 8%, whereas SUV market share increased from 29% in 2020 to 54% by 2024. Tata sells two sedans currently, with the Tigor and Tigor EV accounting for 12,859 units and ranking among the brand's lowest-selling vehicles for 2025.

The Aeris adopts design and structural elements from the Tiago hatchback while retaining the established mechanical architecture of its predecessor. It is positioned in the domestic sub-four-meter sedan category against competitors such as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze, and Hyundai Aura.

The sedan is offered across five trim levels named Smart, Pure, Pure+, Creative, and Accomplished. The base Smart petrol manual variant is priced at Rs 5.29 lakh, while the corresponding Smart CNG manual variant retails at Rs 6.29 lakh. Pricing ranges upward to Rs 8.19 lakh for the top-spec Accomplished petrol manual and Rs 9.19 lakh for the Accomplished CNG manual variant.

Introductory prices for automated manual transmission versions across the petrol and CNG lineups remain to be officially announced by the manufacturer. An automated manual gearbox option is available across all trim grades except the entry-level Smart tier. Notably, Tata Motors intends to keep selling the older Xpres model specifically for commercial fleet operations, reserving the Aeris exclusively for private retail buyers.

Exterior styling borrows heavily from the Tiago hatchback, featuring a sharper frontal aspect characterized by sleeker LED headlamps equipped with eyebrow-like LED daytime running lights, alongside a gloss-black grille. The front bumper integrates black styling accents accompanied by pixel-shaped LED fog lamps and lower air curtains designed to improve aerodynamic efficiency.

In profile, the vehicle retains a notchback roofline supplemented by subtle wheel arch cladding, chrome door handles, chrome window line trim, and a roof-mounted sharkfin antenna. Higher trim levels ride on 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, whereas base Smart and Pure grades, alongside all CNG variants, feature smaller 14-inch wheels. The rear section incorporates slim connected LED taillights linked by a red trim, a high-mounted stop lamp spanning the rear windscreen, and a redesigned lower bumper housing a centrally positioned reverse lamp.

Vehicle dimensions measure 3,995 mm in length, 1,684 mm in width, and 1,532 mm in height, built upon a 2,450 mm wheelbase with a ground clearance rating of 170 mm. The palette includes six exterior paint choices: Dandeli Drizzle, Nitro Crimson, Dune Glow, Pristine White, Pure Grey, and Daytona Grey.

Inside the cabin, the layout mirrors the Tiago dashboard architecture but utilizes a brighter beige and cream color theme intended to create an airier interior atmosphere. The dashboard houses a free-standing semi-digital driver instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment interface supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The vehicle is equipped with a two-spoke steering wheel featuring physical buttons, automatic climate control, cruise control, a wireless smartphone charger, ventilated front seats, and leatherette seat upholstery. Automated manual transmission variants introduce steering-mounted paddle shifters to allow manual gear selection. Audio output is managed by a four-speaker sound system, representing a reduction from the eight-speaker configuration found in the preceding Tigor.

Boot storage capacity differs by powertrain. The petrol variant provides 419 litres of cargo space, matching competing models closely, while the CNG variant utilizes a twin-cylinder packaging arrangement. This dual-cylinder setup preserves usable luggage volume by avoiding single-tank footprint limitations, yielding segment-leading cargo capability for a factory-fitted CNG sedan.

Propulsion is supplied by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine generating 86 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque. The same powerplant is configured to run on compressed natural gas, producing a reduced output of 76 horsepower and 97 Nm of torque. Both engine configurations are mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automated manual transmission.

Standard safety equipment across the lineup includes six airbags, three-point seatbelts with occupant reminders, rear parking sensors, anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages. Higher trim levels incorporate electronic stability control, hill hold assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system, rain-sensing wipers, roll-over mitigation, and a 360-degree camera system featuring a blind-spot monitor and an integrated dashcam recording function.
