Kia Introduces Lifetime Battery Warranty for Carens Clavis EV Buyers

Kia India has introduced a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty for the Carens Clavis EV, granting 15 years of unlimited kilometre coverage to private first owners. The revised assurance package applies to vehicles retailed across the country from August 1, 2026, onwards. The move addresses long-standing buyer reservations regarding the durability and replacement costs of electric vehicle battery packs, effectively lifting the kilometre ceiling that previously capped standard protection.

Under the previous manufacturer guidelines, the high-voltage battery on the electric multi-purpose vehicle carried an eight-year or 1,60,000-kilometre ceiling, whichever arrived first. Industry evaluations indicated that high-running private motorists traveling 25,000 kilometres annually would breach that mileage threshold in approximately 6.4 years, leaving the remainder of the nominal time period without battery coverage. The newly implemented 15-year policy eliminates the kilometre cap entirely for the initial private purchaser, allowing high-usage owners to drive without mileage restrictions during the coverage window.

While the primary warranty enhancement offers extensive protection, Kia has incorporated specific operational boundaries regarding vehicle ownership and usage classifications. The 15-year unlimited kilometre program is strictly restricted to the first private buyer. When the electric MPV is sold to a subsequent owner, the high-voltage battery coverage reverts to a traditional limit of 8 years or 1,60,000 kilometres, whichever comes first.

Commercial applications, including fleet operations and taxis, are entirely excluded from the lifetime warranty framework. Commercial and secondary buyers will continue under the standard eight-year or 1,60,000-kilometre parameter. Furthermore, the high-voltage battery protection remains distinct from the standard vehicle warranty, which provides three years of unlimited kilometre coverage for the broader automobile assembly.

To prevent early adopters from being disadvantaged by the updated policy, Kia India has opened an optional upgrade path for customers who purchased their Carens Clavis EV prior to August 1, 2026. Existing private owners can transition their coverage from the original eight-year package to the 15-year unlimited kilometre program by paying a one-time administrative fee of Rs 3,400, inclusive of applicable taxes.

This upgrade path is subject to specific administrative provisions. Dealerships must conduct a formal vehicle evaluation, and the extension remains contingent upon compliance with the manufacturer's standard warranty terms and conditions. The warranty restructuring coincides with the broader deployment of Kia's electric vehicle ecosystem in India, which includes the Battery-as-a-Service model designed to decouple upfront acquisition costs from battery ownership. The Carens Clavis EV is offered with 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery configurations, delivering ARAI-certified driving ranges of up to 404 kilometres and 490 kilometres, respectively. The standard range models utilize a 135-horsepower electric motor, while extended-range variants produce 171 horsepower.

To support the expanding fleet, Kia operates its K-Charge platform, aggregating more than 20,300 charging points across 23 operators. Infrastructure readiness includes over 129 dealerships equipped with high-capacity DC fast chargers and more than 275 EV-ready service workshops spanning over 400 cities. The lifetime battery initiative follows a similar warranty rollout for the manufacturer's newer Syros EV, signaling a strategic shift toward long-duration battery guarantees across Kia's domestic electric portfolio.
