Huawei-Backed Luxeed Sets September 28 Launch For RX SUV With Lower Entry Pricing

Huawei and Chery joint electric vehicle venture Luxeed has scheduled the official market release of its RX coupe sport utility vehicle for September 28, 2026. The announcement follows a strategic downward adjustment in pre-sales pricing driven by the introduction of a smaller battery configuration designed to capture a broader buyer demographic in China's competitive electrified vehicle sector.

The upcoming rollout is organized through Huawei's Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance platform, which confirmed that the official launch event will commence in Beijing. During the same scheduled conference, sister brand Stelato, developed jointly by Huawei and BAIC, will also open pre-order channels for its first multi-purpose vehicle, the V8.

The introduction of the new 81-kWh battery pack lowers the entry pre-sales threshold for the Luxeed RX to 269,800 yuan, equivalent to approximately $39,980. This figure represents a ten percent reduction compared to the initial pre-sales baseline established on August 20, when the coupe SUV was offered exclusively with a larger 100-kWh battery pack priced between 299,800 yuan and 359,800 yuan.

Executive Director and Executive Vice President Zhao Changjiang noted that approximately 70 percent of consumers placing pre-orders for the vehicle are buyers purchasing an additional vehicle for households that already own another automobile. Company leadership emphasized that the smaller energy storage option is calibrated to handle daily commuting and weekend excursions efficiently without excess mass.

The 81-kWh configuration is distributed across two distinct technological tiers. The base variant, featuring an in-cabin LiDAR system utilizing a shared optical path, maintains the starting pre-sales threshold of 269,800 yuan. Meanwhile, a higher-specification version equipped with hardware architecture designed for Level 3 autonomous driving commands a starting price of 329,800 yuan.

Built on Huawei's proprietary Tuling platform, the mid-to-large-size coupe SUV measures 5,020 mm in length, 2,007 mm in width, and 1,585 mm in height, underpinned by a 3,000-mm wheelbase. The vehicle incorporates the Giant Whale battery platform alongside a next-generation high-performance electric drive system, offering single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive options.

The revised pricing structure places the Luxeed model into direct competition with established rivals in the domestic market, including the standard variants of the Xiaomi YU7. The RX serves as the fourth addition to Luxeed's catalog, joining an existing portfolio that includes the S7 sedan, the R7 coupe SUV, and the V9 multi-purpose vehicle.

Simultaneous pre-orders for the Stelato V8 will mark a major expansion for the BAIC-partnered brand following its public debut at the Chengdu Auto Show. The flagship family multi-purpose vehicle spans 5,335 mm in length with a 3,250-mm wheelbase, offering both battery electric and extended-range electric variants ahead of its final commercial release.
