Kolkata Police Inducts 183 Ultraviolette X-47 Skyforce Electric Motorcycles

Kolkata Police has formally inducted 183 Ultraviolette X-47 Skyforce electric motorcycles into its active fleet, marking what is described as one of the largest deployments of electric two-wheelers by an Indian law enforcement agency. The handover ceremony took place at the Lalbazar Police Headquarters, confirming that the machines are intended for everyday urban patrol and emergency response duties rather than ceremonial roles.

The deployment is part of a broader push toward sustainable municipal mobility. The first batch of 60 electric motorcycles received funding from the West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited under its corporate social responsibility program.

Unlike standard retail versions, the X-47 Skyforce has been engineered with an augmented electronics architecture designed to support specialized tactical gear. The custom-built patrol variant incorporates sirens, hooters, a public address system, LED blinkers, and microphone mounts.

To ensure operational utility during extended shifts, the manufacturer equipped the motorcycles with designated walkie-talkie holders and side panniers for carrying essential field equipment. The crossover platform is designed to handle mixed urban road conditions while maintaining the necessary storage capacity for law enforcement personnel.

Powered by Ultraviolette's performance-focused electric powertrain, the Skyforce variant delivers a peak power output of 36 horsepower alongside instantaneous torque. The platform carries a claimed Indian Driving Cycle range of up to 211 kilometers on a single charge and a top speed of 145 kilometers per hour.

Suspension duties rely on a 41-millimeter upside-down fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear, offering 170 millimeters of wheel travel at both ends. Stopping power is managed by Bybre braking hardware featuring a 320-millimeter front disc and a 230-millimeter rear disc, supplemented by dual-channel anti-lock braking.

The patrol motorcycles retain several technology features from the standard consumer platform, including UV Hypersense radar-based safety systems such as blind-spot detection, lane-change assist, overtake alerts, and rear-collision warning.

Officers also gain access to multiple riding modes, dual-camera setups, dual displays, three levels of traction control, and nine levels of brake regeneration. The integration aims to give patrol officers advanced situational awareness during high-density traffic interventions.

Both municipal authorities and manufacturing leadership emphasized the economic rationale behind the transition to electric fleets. Lower ongoing maintenance intervals and reduced running costs compared to internal combustion equivalents formed a core driver for the large-scale induction.

Narayan Subramaniam, CEO and Co-founder of Ultraviolette, noted that the deployment marks a major corporate milestone as the company positions itself as a scaled electric two-wheeler supplier for official public service fleets. The initiative aligns municipal operational savings with broader urban emission reduction targets.
