Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD is preparing to launch its luxury sub-brand Denza in India, with the flagship Z9 GT shooting brake spied on domestic roads ahead of an official debut on November 13, 2026. The high-performance estate car was spotted uncamouflaged in Gurugram, confirming that vehicle units have arrived in the country alongside the D9 luxury multi-purpose vehicle.

Tri-Motor Powertrain and Battery Specifications

In its top-tier battery electric specification, the Z9 GT utilizes a tri-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain delivering a combined output of 1,156 PS and 1,210 Nm of torque. Denza states that the electric shooting brake accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, reaching a maximum top speed of 270 km/h depending on market tuning. Energy is stored in a 122.5 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate Blade battery pack, providing a claimed international laboratory driving range of up to 600 kilometers under WLTP standards. The manufacturer claims its flash charging architecture can replenish the battery from 10% to 97% in nine minutes under optimal station conditions delivering up to 1,500 kW. In international markets, the model also offers a plug-in hybrid variant pairing a 2.0-liter turbocharged combustion engine with three electric motors producing up to 1,000 bhp to generate 1,035 Nm of torque. In 2011, Denza was established as BYD's luxury automotive brand, according to CarWale.

The hybrid powertrain delivers a pure electric range of 201 km and an overall combined driving range of 1,100 km using a 38.51 kWh battery pack.

Chassis Architecture and Maneuvering Capabilities

Built on BYD's e3 platform, the 5.18-metre-long shooting brake measures 5,180 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width, and 1,490 mm in height, riding on an expansive 3,125 mm wheelbase. A defining technical highlight is active rear-wheel steering allowing up to 15 degrees of articulation, enabling tight parking maneuvers, diagonal crab-walking, and a 360-degree compass turn. Styling flaunts the Elegance In Motion design language, featuring swooping lines, swept-back LED headlights, flush door handles, a sloping roofline, a split roof spoiler, and 20-inch alloy wheels.

Interior Technology and Market Positioning

Inside the cabin, the dashboard houses three separate digital interfaces, including a 17.3-inch central infotainment touchscreen, a 13.2-inch driver instrument cluster, and a 13.2-inch passenger display. Luxury amenities include a 20-speaker Devialet audio system, heated and ventilated massage seats for all occupants, four-zone climate control, and dual 50W wireless phone charging pads. Industry estimates project the Z9 GT will arrive as a completely built-up import priced between Rs 1.2 crore and Rs 1.5 crore ex-showroom.

Background

Denza's first wave of retail touchpoints will target tier-1 and tier-2 Indian cities with showrooms physically separated from standard BYD facilities to maintain premium luxury positioning, according to CarWale.

The Denza Z9 GT features split Matrix LED headlights equipped with 108 lighting zones, according to Autocar India.

BYD India confirmed that the India-spec Denza Z9 GT will maintain feature parity with global market versions as a completely built unit import, according to Autocar India.
