Volkswagen India has officially revealed exterior images of the Virtus facelift, providing an early look at the midsize sedan's first major styling update since its domestic launch in June 2022. The preview showcases a performance-oriented GT trim finished in a blue exterior shade, featuring revised front styling, updated alloy wheels, and refined aerodynamic body elements.

Volkswagen has listed the updated sedan on its Indian website ahead of an expected commercial rollout in the coming weeks.

Front Facia Redesign and Exterior Styling Details

The most noticeable visual change centers on the redesigned front bumper, which incorporates an angular lower air intake with geometric mesh and diamond-shaped detailing. Black trim outlines the outer bumper sections, while a slim bright accent strip runs along the lower apron.

The narrow upper radiator grille retains horizontal elements connecting the headlamps, accompanied by a central brand emblem and a red GT badge. The headlights contain individual LED daytime running light signatures without a full-width connected light strip spanning the front nose.

Profile Adjustments and Surround Vision Hardware

In profile, the silhouette remains consistent while introducing 16-inch alloy wheels featuring a new 10-spoke design. The blue GT model displayed in official previews features black alloy wheels, black mirror housings, and red GT badges along the front fenders.

A camera-like module positioned beneath the exterior rearview mirror suggests the Virtus facelift will incorporate a 360-degree surround-view system. Toward the tail end, designers added a darkened trunk-lid spoiler alongside reprofiled lower bumper cladding accented with triangular elements.

Executive Commentary and Cabin Equipment

Volkswagen India Brand Director Nitin Kohli noted during the preview that the brand is introducing a fresh visual character while retaining the established strengths of the model. Regarding cabin amenities, existing Virtus variants come equipped with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster and ventilated front seats, accompanied by wireless smartphone connectivity and a central 10.1-inch touchscreen display.

Carryover Turbo-Petrol Powertrains and Competition

Powertrain choices carry over from the current lineup, including a 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI producing 115 PS and 178 Nm, alongside a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI developing 150 PS and 250 Nm. The smaller turbo-petrol unit could receive an optional eight-speed torque converter automatic, while the 1.5-litre engine retains its seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission.

The Virtus shares its MQB A0 IN architecture with the Skoda Slavia, competing in the domestic midsize category against the Slavia, Honda City, and Hyundai Verna. The Skoda Slavia facelift has a starting price of Rs 10 lakh, according to Autocar India.

Background

According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers data, utility vehicles accounted for 68% of total passenger vehicle sales in Q2 2026.
