BMW Group India is preparing to implement its fourth price increase of the calendar year across its vehicle portfolio, driven by persistent currency depreciation and high commodity expenses. The German luxury car manufacturer has already raised prices by up to 5 percent through three separate revisions earlier in 2026. Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO of BMW Group India, announced the impending price adjustment during the introduction of the new BMW 7 Series lineup, noting that the domestic currency has weakened by approximately 18 percent since January of last year.
The upcoming price revision underscores the severe margin pressures facing luxury automotive importers in domestic markets. As raw material expenses remain elevated and foreign exchange headwinds mount, the company has had to systematically pass on costs to preserve profitability. Brar confirmed that the next price increase could take effect as early as next month, following three cumulative adjustments that have already raised retail figures across the BMW and MINI portfolios by up to 5 percent.
Foreign Exchange Pressures and Cumulative Price Adjustments
The ongoing currency deterioration has profoundly impacted the automaker's cost structure since the beginning of last year. According to corporate leadership, the foreign exchange impact has been severe enough to necessitate multiple upward revisions within a single calendar year, an unusual frequency for the premium segment.
Speaking to reporters regarding the margin squeeze, Hardeep Singh Brar stated, "The forex has hit us quite a bit. We have increased prices by 4-5 per cent till now and there's another one around the corner. So the prices will continue to go up for us because of the pressure of forex, of commodities, etc." Brar added that the company has already completed three increases this year and is actively considering a fourth implementation as early as next month, citing an 18 percent deterioration in forex rates since January of the preceding year.
Flagship Sedan Launch and Electric Expansion
The pricing announcement coincided with the domestic debut of the new BMW 7 Series range. The flagship luxury sedan is now available in both traditional petrol configurations and fully electric powertrains, broadening the brand's low-emission offerings for domestic buyers. Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh was introduced as the brand voice for BMW India during the unveiling ceremony.
The expanded luxury lineup features multiple variants catering to distinct consumer segments. The new BMW 740 M Sport and the BMW i7 eDrive 50 xDrive M Sport are both priced at Rs 1.95 crore each ex-showroom. Meanwhile, the high-performance all-electric BMW i7 M70 xDrive commands a sticker price of Rs 2.65 crore ex-showroom.
Local Production Footprint at Chennai Plant
In a strategic shift for its manufacturing footprint, BMW Group India confirmed that the new BMW i7 will now be locally produced at the company's Chennai plant. This development elevates India's status within the global corporate network, making it the only country outside Germany to locally manufacture the electric flagship sedan.
Detailing the manufacturing strategy, Hardeep Singh Brar noted, "In addition to the 7 Series, the new BMW i7 will also now be locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai. With this, India becomes the only other country apart from Germany where the i7 is locally produced. The new BMW i7 M70 will be available as a completely built-up unit." While the core electric sedan benefits from local assembly to optimize costs, the higher-performance M70 variant continues to be imported as a completely built-up unit.
Dealership Bookings and Delivery Timelines
Order books for the newly launched 7 Series range and electric variants are currently open at authorized BMW India dealerships across the country. The automaker has confirmed that customer deliveries for the newly unveiled luxury sedans are scheduled to commence in October 2026.
These retail timelines coincide with the projected window for the fourth price revision, meaning prospective buyers finalizing their purchase orders in the coming weeks may encounter the revised ex-showroom pricing structure. Dealerships are currently managing inquiries for both the locally assembled i7 variants and the imported M70 performance models ahead of the autumn delivery rollout.
