Hafidh Ameir Hassan, the husband of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, passed away on Monday while receiving medical treatment for a heart condition. The death of the nation's first gentleman was confirmed by Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi, who announced that the passing occurred at 08:00 local time at the Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Hassan, an agricultural academic by profession, had maintained a notably private life throughout his wife’s tenure as president. He assumed the role of first gentleman in 2021 when President Samia Suluhu Hassan ascended to the presidency following the death of her predecessor, John Magufuli. Although he occupied a position of significant national visibility as the spouse of the head of state, Hafidh Ameir Hassan was rarely seen in the public eye.
