Zomato Introduces Limitless Delivery Up to 40km in Seven Cities
Food delivery platform Zomato has launched a service called Limitless Delivery, allowing users to place orders from eateries located up to 40 kilometres away within the same city. The feature eliminates longstanding distance restrictions that previously confined customer selections to neighbourhood establishments, opening access to well-known dining spots situated across urban metropolitan zones.
The extended service is initially rolling out across seven major metropolitan regions in India: Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune, and Hyderabad. The initiative enables diners to discover popular culinary outlets across their broader city that were previously inaccessible on the app due to geographic distance. Platform representatives designed the capability to address instances where consumers discover dining outlets on social platforms but find them unavailable for local residential delivery. For instance, an app user placing an order from Gurugram can now discover and access culinary offerings located in other areas of Delhi NCR without undertaking extensive in-person road travel.
Shifting Delivery Radii and Industry Operating Models
Historically, on-demand food platforms have enforced strict delivery perimeters to guarantee rapid rider dispatch and preserve the temperature and freshness of prepared meals. Under the expanded architecture, Zomato aims to connect customers directly with distant destination restaurants that previously required customers to travel across town.
App Navigation and Consumer Ordering Pathways
Customers can access the expanded delivery options through two dedicated pathways within the smartphone application without adopting unfamiliar ordering procedures. Users can navigate through a curated portal situated under the Explore More section on the home screen, or search for specific distant establishments directly via the primary search bar. Patrons with a specific restaurant in mind can input its name directly into search tools to verify address delivery coverage before ordering. Orders are subsequently processed through standard checkout workflows just like standard meal deliveries, displaying available menus and confirming address eligibility before dispatch.
Leadership Perspective and Operational Considerations
Commenting on the launch, Aditya Mangla, CEO, Zomato, stated that consumers frequently have preferred dining spots that are not situated near their residential localities. Mangla noted that enabling orders from up to 40 km away provides a straightforward mechanism to make a city's diverse culinary ecosystem accessible to a broader audience.
The company is yet to detail whether patrons will incur mandatory surcharges for extended mileage or experience significantly longer delivery wait windows.
