Vodafone Idea Introduces Free International Roaming Across Select Plans
Vodafone Idea has rolled out complimentary international roaming across select prepaid, postpaid, and enterprise plans, aiming to eliminate standalone roaming packs and separate travel SIM cards for overseas travelers. The offering applies across more than 170 countries, with eligible subscribers able to access roaming data and outgoing call allowances up to three times annually.
The telecom operator stated that the initiative is tied to its recent branding campaign under the banner of providing enhanced perks to subscribers. According to company disclosures, eligible users can achieve annual savings of up to Rs 9,000 depending on their specific subscription tier and circle.
Eligible Plan Structure Across Prepaid and Postpaid
The complimentary international roaming benefit is integrated into postpaid Vi Max plans starting from Rs 501, corporate enterprise plans starting at Rs 451, and specific annual prepaid unlimited data recharges ranging from Rs 3,599 to Rs 4,999. Individual subscribers as well as family plan holders qualify for the bundles, though precise inclusions vary significantly by telecom circle.
Vodafone Idea Limited provides digital services, voice, and data alongside international roaming across its offerings. Additionally, Vi Business offers corporate postpaid tiers such as the Rs 451 plan that includes features like one free international roaming trip per year.
Prepaid users holding annual data packages can claim a complimentary International Roaming Bundle directly through the Vi mobile application during their active pack validity. Postpaid tiers supporting the feature encompass multiple price points, including Rs 601, Rs 801, Rs 971, Rs 1,251, and up to Rs 1,775 tiers, though availability remains constrained in select regional circles.
Regional Exclusions and Standalone Alternatives
While the operator has enabled the service across the majority of domestic circles, the free international roaming benefits are currently excluded in Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, and North East telecom circles. Customers residing in those regions or operating on non-eligible tariffs must continue to purchase standalone roaming packs.
Traditional travel packs remain available for purchase through the carrier's digital channels, with pricing spanning from Rs 649 to Rs 5,999 contingent on destination and duration. Chief Executive Officer Abhijit Kishore noted that the rollout addresses longstanding user friction points such as expensive overseas billing, local SIM registration, and missed verification codes.
