Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 9 FE Tipped for 2027 as Budget Foldable Option

Samsung is evaluating an expansion of its foldable smartphone portfolio for 2027 by testing an additional wide-format device, according to industry disclosures shared by technology tipster Anthony on social media platform X. The South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer is reportedly weighing two distinct product paths: releasing a larger flagship variant designated as the Galaxy Z Fold 9 Plus, or introducing a more economical option marketed as the Galaxy Z Fold 9 FE.
The potential dual-track approach reflects efforts by Samsung to broaden market adoption of folding screen technology across differing consumer spending tiers. While the company introduced wider hardware form factors earlier this year with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, future portfolio planning appears focused on addressing either demand for expanded display real estate or consumer resistance to high flagship price points.
Hardware Configurations and Component Trade-Offs
Under the leaked product proposals, the Galaxy Z Fold 9 Plus would retain the core hardware capabilities of the standard Galaxy Z Fold 9 while adopting a wider chassis design accompanied by a higher-capacity battery pack. The tipster claims that introducing the Galaxy Z Fold 9 FE as an affordable watered-down version would require component compromises to achieve a lower price point.
Technical leaks indicate that the FE model may feature a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera instead of a higher-resolution sensor. The device is said to run on Samsung's Exynos 2600 processor rather than the flagship chipset, enabling the manufacturer to position the device around $1,699, or roughly Rs 1.5 lakh. The flagship models in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup currently utilize Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy platform, whereas the flip-style Galaxy Z Flip 8 employs the Exynos 2600 in selected regional markets under a dual-chip distribution strategy.
Combined purchases of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 8 are 30% higher than the previous generation, accounting for around 80% of Galaxy Z series purchases, according to Sammy Fans.
Market Positioning and Portfolio Context
Samsung has yet to announce the Galaxy Z Fold 9 series or verify plans for either rumoured model, according to NDTV Gadgets, with formal product definitions expected to solidify closer to 2027. The company's contemporary foldable catalog includes the premium Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the compact Galaxy Z Flip 8, which debuted at the Galaxy Unpacked exhibition in July.
Concurrently, regional leaks in China highlight Samsung's upcoming W27 luxury foldable model, which incorporates an 8-inch primary folding screen, a 6.5-inch external cover panel, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, and a triple rear camera arrangement featuring a 200-megapixel primary sensor alongside 50-megapixel and 10-megapixel auxiliary cameras powered by a 5,000mAh battery.
