iQOO 16 Debuts in China With Snapdragon 8 Elite and 8,400mAh Battery
Vivo sub-brand iQOO launched its flagship iQOO 16 smartphone in China on Tuesday alongside the new iQOO Pad Ultra. The handset introduces high-end hardware specifications, including a massive 8,400mAh battery and Qualcomm's advanced mobile architecture, positioning it as a major contender in the premium mobile market.
Earlier model iterations such as the iQOO 10 Pro featured a 4,700mAh battery split into dual cells to achieve a 200W charging speed that fully replenished the device in 10 minutes. Regarding regional availability for the target handset, the press release lacks any mention of plans for the Indian market.
The device is powered by Qualcomm's octa-core Snapdragon 8 Elite processor built on a 2nm manufacturing node, delivering peak clock speeds of up to 5.01GHz. Processing performance is paired with LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 onboard storage, alongside a proprietary Q4 gaming chip and an Adreno GPU. For thermal management under high loads, the chassis houses an upgraded vapour chamber solution featuring an 8,500 square millimetre heat dissipation area.
As a point of comparison, the REDMAGIC 11S Pro features a 13,116 square millimetre vapor chamber. Meanwhile, the iQOO 16 starts at 5,999 for the base configuration, representing an increase compared to its predecessor.
Display Specifications and Advanced Panels
The front of the device features a 6.85-inch Samsung-made M16 AMOLED display with a 2K resolution of 1,440 by 3,168 pixels, a 19.8:9 aspect ratio, and a 165Hz refresh rate. The panel achieves a pixel density of 508 ppi, supports 1.07 billion colours, and incorporates a 5,000Hz instantaneous touch sampling rate.
According to reporting details from specialist outlets, the luminescent material enables localized peak brightness levels reaching up to 10,000 nits, while full-screen peak brightness in high brightness mode hits 2,800 nits. The screen also integrates anti-reflective film and Vivo's proprietary LEAD display technology, which combines low power consumption, eco-friendly features, augmented brightness, and a slim profile.
Optics and Camera Configuration
Photography hardware on the rear consists of a triple camera array led by a 50-megapixel primary sensor with a 1/1.3-inch optical format and optical image stabilization. This is supplemented by a 50-megapixel ultrawide sensor featuring autofocus and a 1/2.75-inch format, and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with a 1/1.95-inch sensor offering optical stabilization, 3x optical zoom, and 6x lossless zoom capabilities alongside 100x digital zoom.
The proprietary iQOO Q4 gaming chip enhances graphics processing by boosting frame rates up to 165 FPS for supported games, with the 165 Hz mode optimized across more than 50 popular games and 100 everyday applications. Furthermore, the periscope camera utilizes a Sony LYT-600 sensor equipped with an f/2.65 aperture, a W-shaped optical design, 3x optical zoom, and CIPA 5.0 stabilization.
Video recording is supported at resolutions up to 8K at 30 frames per second. For selfies and video calls, the front punch-hole housing contains a fixed-focus 32-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture.
Power, Charging, and Software Architecture
The device derives its energy from a high-capacity 8,400mAh battery that supports 100W wired fast charging and 40W wireless charging. Software operations are handled by Vivo's OriginOS 7 operating system, which is built on top of Android 17.
Physical durability is certified by IP68 and IP69 ratings for resistance against dust and water ingress. Security features include an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, while connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and comprehensive satellite positioning systems including GPS, BeiDou, GLONASS, Galileo, and QZSS.
Pricing, Configurations, and Market Launch
The iQOO 16 is offered in three colorways translated from Chinese as Chasing Light, Legend, and Racing Track, with device thickness varying between 8.30mm and 8.55mm and weight ranging from 222.5g to 229.8g depending on the finish.
Retail pricing in China starts at CNY 5,999 (roughly Rs. 86,000) for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration. Higher storage tiers include the 12GB plus 512GB model priced at CNY 6,799 (about Rs. 97,000) and the 16GB plus 512GB version at CNY 7,499 (roughly Rs. 1,07,000). The top-of-the-line variant featuring 16GB of RAM and 1TB of onboard storage is priced at CNY 8,499 (roughly Rs. 1,21,000). The smartphone is scheduled to go on sale via the Vivo online store in October, with international market availability expected to follow based on the release patterns of previous generation predecessors.
