Honor Debuts Magic 9 Pro Max in China Featuring Dual 200MP Cameras and ARRI Imaging Science

According to HONOR, honor has officially launched its Magic 9 Pro Max flagship smartphone in China, introducing a heavy emphasis on professional motion-picture heritage through an expanded technical partnership with cinema equipment maker ARRI. Revealed following a brief preview at the Venice Film Festival, the new device anchors its design around a distinctive triple-camera array inspired by classic ARRIFLEX film cameras, pairing advanced mechanical stabilization with dual high-resolution sensors and proprietary in-house processing hardware.
According to ARRI, for Cinematic Imaging Partnership, Honor and ARRI announced their strategic partnership at MWC Barcelona on March 1, 2026, previewed the technology at the Venice Film Festival in September 2026, and officially debuted the commercial flagship on September 28, 2026. According to ARRI, the device records native ARRI LogC3 in 10-bit color, enabling filmmakers to ingest mobile capture directly into DaVinci Resolve post-production color pipelines using standard ARRI Look profiles.
The smartphone debuts at a starting price of RMB 6,499, approximately $968 USD, available in Shadow Black, Glacier Silver, and Moss Green across four memory and storage configurations ranging from 12GB RAM with 256GB storage up to 16GB RAM with 1TB of onboard capacity. Honor executives noted that the hardware platform was engineered specifically to bridge mobile photography with professional cinematic production standards.
ARRI Cinematic Imaging Partnership and Optical Array
The central engineering achievement of the Magic 9 Pro Max lies in its optical configuration, which features a primary 200-megapixel Ultra Night main camera utilizing a large 1/1.28-inch sensor with an f/1.57 aperture. This sensor is supported by optical image stabilization alongside a three-degree gimbal-level stabilization mechanism and CIPA 8.0 stabilization certification. Accompanying the main shooter is a second 200-megapixel Ultra Night telephoto lens built around a 1/1.4-inch sensor with an f/2.6 aperture, alongside a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera with an f/2.0 aperture and a 55-megapixel front-facing camera paired with a 3D depth sensor.
The collaboration with ARRI extends deep into software processing and color management, integrating ARRI Image Science for real-time previews, capture pipelines, and color grading. Users gain access to 14 built-in ARRI filter presets with support for importing a broader library of 87 custom looks. For moving images, the device supports up to 4K recording at 60 frames per second using ARRI Cinema Mode, alongside ARRI LogC3, 10-bit color depth, and ARRI Wide Gamut 3 capabilities.
According to HONOR, the self-developed 6nm H1 imaging processor achieves 18.8 TOPS/W energy efficiency and delivers an 8dB improvement in signal-to-noise ratio in RAW-domain processing. According to Mashable, honor's integration of ARRI LogC3 and ARRI Look profiles directly challenges Apple's ProRes Log on the iPhone 16/17 Pro, establishing a dedicated Hollywood-grade video grading pipeline on Android.
Processing Architecture and Display Specifications
Under the hood, Honor equipped the flagship with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, operating alongside the company's proprietary Imaging Chip H1 designed to preserve fine photographic textures and reduce computational noise during high-contrast capture sessions. Visual output is driven by a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display featuring a variable refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz and peak brightness capabilities reaching up to 10,000 nits in specific highlights, while general operation reaches 2,000 nits.
Audio capture and playback have also received dedicated engineering focus through a four-microphone Cinematic Directional Microphone system. Honor stated the array is capable of isolating directional audio and suppressing ambient environmental noise from distances of up to 20 meters. Audio monitoring is handled by stereo dual 1216 speakers, while creators can mount the device into a dedicated SmallRig Mobile Video Kit featuring physical handles, mounting points, and an active cooling fan for extended recording sessions.
Battery Capacity and Software Ecosystem
Power management is driven by an exceptionally large 8,800mAh silicon-carbon battery cell, which supports 100W wired SuperCharging as well as 80W wireless charging capabilities. The device runs on MagicOS 11, built on top of Android 17, which integrates the brand's on-device artificial intelligence assistant YOYO. The software suite includes YOYO Memory features designed to assist users in capturing, indexing, and rediscovering media assets through automated organizational tools.
According to 9to5Google, while the device is currently shipping exclusively within the Chinese domestic market, Honor confirmed plans to introduce the Magic 9 Pro Max to other key international regions. Specific release timelines and pricing structures for overseas markets, including the United Kingdom and Europe, remain pending, while official distribution in the United States has not been scheduled.
According to 9to5Google, honor confirmed global launch plans for Europe, the UK, MEA, and Southeast Asia, with European release projected for early 2027 (Q1 / MWC window) following previous Magic series cycles. According to PhoneDroid, the device launched in China starting at CNY 6,499 (~€845), but European retail pricing is projected at €1,299 to €1,499 after accounting for value-added tax and local carrier certification.
