Google Sets September 21 Pre-Order Date for New Android-Powered Googlebooks

Google has officially confirmed that pre-orders for its highly anticipated line of Googlebooks will open on September 21, 2026, at 9 a.m. ET. The upcoming laptops represent an entirely new hardware category for the company, shifting away from traditional lightweight software environments to run natively on the Android technology stack.

The official pre-order date was communicated to users through targeted email notifications and accompanied by promotional teaser materials on the official Android YouTube channel. While the hardware rollout is just days away, Google has not yet disclosed exact retail pricing or confirmed the exact shipping schedule for the initial device wave.

Initial manufacturing support for the Googlebook lineup comes from a coalition of major PC heavyweights. Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are slated to deliver the first wave of hardware options under the new category.

Promotional material released by Google highlights a signature glowing multicolored light bar integrated into the physical chassis, a hardware design element expected to be standard across the initial generation of devices. While hardware specifications from individual manufacturers remain pending, Google has positioned the machines as premium, high-performance notebooks.

Unlike traditional Chromebooks running ChromeOS, Googlebooks operate on an Android-based software architecture designed for the intelligence era. Although industry tracking has widely pointed to the long-rumored Aluminium OS project as the underlying platform, Google has not yet revealed the official commercial marketing name for the operating system.

The new laptops feature deep integration with Android mobile hardware. Users will be able to open apps from an Android smartphone directly on the laptop screen and access locally stored mobile files without manual file transfers.

Googlebooks will lean heavily on built-in artificial intelligence powered by Gemini. Among the highlighted system utilities is the Magic Pointer, which brings contextual Gemini assistance directly to the cursor. Pointing at specific items, such as a date in an email message, enables rapid contextual actions like meeting scheduling.

Additional productivity utilities include Create My Widget, an assistant-driven feature that builds custom user widgets based entirely on text descriptions. Google has established a dedicated web portal to display product teasers and countdown details ahead of the September 21 pre-order launch.
