Apple iPhone Duo First-Week Stock Sells Out In India At Rs 2.99 Lakh

Apple has sold out the entire first-week Indian inventory of its first foldable handset, the iPhone Duo, following pre-orders that opened on October 16 ahead of the October 23 retail launch, sources aware of the development told PTI. On the morning of the release, quick-commerce service Blinkit also exhausted its initial Delhi-NCR allocation within five minutes of putting the handset on sale at 8:15 a.m., according to Mashable India and NDTV.
On September 20, 2024, quick-commerce platforms Blinkit, BigBasket, and Zepto delivered new Apple iPhones within minutes across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru, with Blinkit partnering with authorised Apple reseller Unicorn Stores, according to Mint.
Priced from Rs 2,99,900 (about Rs 3 lakh) up to Rs 4,49,900 (about Rs 4.5 lakh) for the 2TB configuration, the foldable model is Apple's most expensive smartphone in India and matches the cost of several popular Maruti Suzuki hatchback cars, PTI and Mashable India reported. Because first-week allocations were claimed in advance, walk-in buyers cannot purchase the handset on the spot at Apple's physical stores, while an emailed query to Apple did not bring an immediate reply, PTI reported.
In India, the intermediate storage options of the iPhone Duo cost Rs 3,24,900 for the mid-tier model and Rs 3,74,900 for the next tier, according to The Times of India.
BKC And Saket Flagship Bookings And Blinkit Rapid Sellout
Apple's flagship outlets at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai and Select Citywalk Mall in Saket, New Delhi, recorded the highest pre-booking volumes in the country, with crowds also gathering outside the Saket store as sales began, PTI and Mashable India reported. People familiar with inventory tracking told PTI, "First week stock of iPhone Duo is entirely sold out in India," adding that "Apple Stores located in BKC and Saket are very close in terms of booking numbers," according to the agency.
Compared with the iPhone Duo, the Pro Max has more versatile camera hardware, adding a 48MP telephoto lens, variable aperture, and ProRes controls that the Duo lacks, according to Memeburn.
Alongside the retail queues, Blinkit founder Albinder Dhindsa stated on social media that the platform began selling the iPhone Duo at 8:15 a.m. in Delhi-NCR and ran out of all available units in five minutes while working to restock in the coming weeks, Mashable India reported. Mashable India noted that Blinkit did not disclose how many units were in its opening batch, while online reactions ranged from questions about initial stock depth to a social media post calling India a "rich nation" over the rapid demand for a nearly Rs 3 lakh phone.
Internationally, the iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 in the United States and Dh8,499 in the United Arab Emirates, alongside European starting prices in euros and sterling, according to Gulf News.
Across its US storage configurations, the iPhone Duo runs from $1,999 to $3,199, according to Memeburn.
Foldable Display Dimensions, A20 Pro Hardware And Rivals
Powered by Apple's A20 Pro processor and equipped with a dual 48-megapixel camera setup, the iPhone Duo pairs a 5.4-inch outer screen in its folded state with a 7.6-inch flexible inner display when unfolded, according to PTI and Mashable India. In its folded form, the 5.4-inch outer panel delivers 90 per cent of the display area of the 6.3-inch iPhone 18 Pro, whereas the unfolded 7.6-inch screen is 50 per cent larger than the 6.9-inch panel on the iPhone 18 Pro Max, PTI reported.
Analysts cited by PTI project that the iPhone Duo will capture roughly 24 per cent of India's foldable smartphone market, where it competes against the Samsung Z Fold 8 lineup priced between Rs 1.79 lakh and Rs 2.6 lakh for the 1TB version. Counterpoint Research Director Tarun Pathak said early uptake will come from loyal Apple customers and technology adopters drawn to the form factor, larger screen and user interface, stating, "Overall, we believe that the iPhone Duo is set to expand India's foldable segment by value rather than volume initially and bring the spotlight on the foldable segment," PTI reported.
Apple's FY26 India Revenue And Shipment Growth
The foldable launch follows a fiscal year 2026 in which Apple's Indian revenue was estimated to have surpassed $10 billion, or nearly Rs 1 lakh crore, driven by iPhone sales that represent the majority of its domestic revenue and make the iPhone India's top exported smartphone, PTI reported. Counterpoint Research data cited by PTI showed that Apple's iPhone shipments in India rose 24 per cent year-on-year in FY26 to reach 14 million units.
