India Seamer Mukesh Kumar Signs With Nottinghamshire for County Championship Stint

Indian fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has signed with Nottinghamshire for the final two fixtures of the County Championship season, marking his maiden stint in the English domestic circuit. The right-arm seamer arrives directly from the Duleep Trophy final, where he claimed 3 for 62 to help East Zone secure victory over South Zone on the final day by virtue of a first-innings lead.

Nottinghamshire currently sit second in the County Championship Division One standings with five victories from six matches and 185 points. Head coach Peter Moores noted that securing a match-ready bowler of international caliber provides a vital boost as the club enters its final stretch, with fixtures scheduled against Sussex in Hove starting Tuesday, September 15, and a home match against Yorkshire on September 24.

Kumar enters his maiden county assignment carrying extensive first-class credentials. Across 60 red-ball matches, he has claimed 233 wickets at an average of 21.79, including ten five-wicket hauls and one ten-wicket match haul. His domestic record features a career-best 10 wickets for 50 runs during a Ranji Trophy innings victory for Bengal against Bihar in February 2024.

At the international level, Kumar has represented India across 26 fixtures in all formats, collecting 32 total wickets, which includes seven dismissals across three Test matches. Among his notable Test performances was a first-innings spell of 2 wickets for no runs against South Africa in Cape Town in January 2024, helping dismiss the hosts for 55.

Kumar joins a growing contingent of Indian cricketers participating in English county cricket during the domestic season. Other players featured across the county divisions include Kuldeep Yadav with Yorkshire, Manav Suthar with Warwickshire, and Auqib Nabi, who recently represented Surrey.
