The two-day tournament features more than 425 players representing over 100 schools spread across more than 10 states, establishing a major platform for scholastic chess development in western India.
More than 800 participants, coaches, parents, and institutional delegates are gathered at the venue for the high-level competition. The championship is structured around four distinct age divisions, namely Under 11, Under 14, Under 17, and Under 19, allowing students from diverse academic backgrounds to test their strategic acumen on the board.

The opening ceremony was graced by prominent chess figures and public officials, most notably Indian Chess Grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa. "Seeing so many children play shows that chess is truly growing," Praggnanandhaa remarked during the event. He advised young competitors to enjoy matches without unnecessary pressure, noting that chess cultivates critical life skills such as patience, focus, and methodical decision-making.

"This is my first time in this tournament in ISSO, so I'm playing in the under-19 category, and I am really thankful to my school as my interest in chess has developed even further due to this tournament," Patel stated, highlighting the guidance provided by school-affiliated coaches.
