Dalal Street Braces For Historic Six-IPO Rush In Single Day For First Time Since 1996

Dalal Street Braces For Historic Six-IPO Rush In Single Day For First Time Since 1996
⚠️For informational purposes only; not investment advice.
The Bottom Line
  • •Six mainboard IPOs including Rentomojo, Karamtara Engineering, and LCC Projects are opening for subscription on September 9, 2026, a single-day rush not seen in India since October 1996.
  • •The six Wednesday issues aim to raise a combined ₹4,386 crore, driven by robust domestic mutual fund inflows and promoters looking to monetize holdings through Offers for Sale.
  • •Allotments for the major Wednesday offerings are expected on September 15, with stock market debuts scheduled for September 17 on the NSE and BSE.
On September 9, 2026, India's primary market will witness an unprecedented event as six mainboard initial public offerings (IPOs) open for subscription on a single day. This marks the first time in nearly 30 years—since October 14, 1996—that exactly six public offers have debuted on Dalal Street simultaneously, signaling an extraordinary surge in corporate fundraising and investor liquidity.
The six companies tapping the market on Wednesday—Rentomojo, Asset Reconstruction Company (India) Ltd (ARCIL), Manipal Payment & Identity Solutions, Steamhouse India, LCC Projects, and Karamtara Engineering—are collectively seeking to raise ₹4,386 crore. This massive capital pool stands in stark contrast to the mere ₹22 crore raised during the single-day rush three decades ago, highlighting the exponential scale of India's modern financial ecosystem.

A Historic Single-Day Rush on Dalal Street

The historical precedent for this week's primary market activity dates back to the mid-1990s. According to data from Prime Database, October 14, 1996, was the last time exactly six mainboard IPOs opened on a single day, followed closely by a seven-IPO day on October 28, 1996. Between 1995 and 1996, which were exceptionally buoyant years for Indian public offerings, Dalal Street occasionally saw upwards of 10 public issues launch concurrently.
The current rush is part of a much larger weekly wave. Between September 7 and September 11, 2026, a total of 12 mainboard IPOs are scheduled to open, targeting a cumulative fundraising goal of approximately ₹7,180 crore. This rapid succession of listings is being closely watched by market participants as a test of the primary market's depth and retail investor appetite.

Grey Market Signals and Key Issue Details

Grey market premiums (GMP) indicate strong early interest for several of the prominent Wednesday debutants. Rentomojo, which is looking to raise ₹1,255.57 crore, is commanding a GMP of ₹127. With its price band fixed at ₹384 to ₹404 per share, the grey market implies a listing price of ₹531, representing a potential listing gain of 31.44%. The issue consists of a ₹150 crore fresh issue and an offer for sale (OFS) worth ₹1,105.57 crore.
Karamtara Engineering is targeting ₹875 crore through its offering, which includes ₹675 crore in fresh shares and a ₹200 crore OFS. With a price band of ₹241 to ₹254, its current GMP of ₹60 suggests an estimated listing price of ₹314, or a 23.62% premium. Meanwhile, LCC Projects is seeking ₹427.14 crore (comprising ₹258 crore fresh equity and a ₹169.14 crore OFS) at a price band of ₹139 to ₹146. Its GMP of ₹30 points to a potential 20.55% listing gain at ₹176 per share.

Liquidity Drivers and the Secondary Market Trade-Off

Market experts attribute this massive supply of new paper to structural liquidity and strategic corporate timing. Pranav Haldea, Managing Director of Prime Database, noted that robust investor demand is the primary enabler. "No one is forced to buy an IPO after all," Haldea said, explaining that companies gauge interest during roadshows and can defer or adjust valuations if demand falters. He identified the steady monthly inflows into domestic mutual funds as a key driver, as these funds require fresh paper to deploy capital beyond the saturated secondary market.
However, this primary market boom may be exerting pressure elsewhere. G Chokkalingam, founder of Equinomics Research, warned that the appetite has shifted, stating, "Even FPIs have withdrawn money from the secondary market and invested it in the primary market." While retail investors have enjoyed quick tactical gains from recent listings like Milky Mist, ESDS Software, and Tempsens Instruments—some of which doubled in value before correcting—the diversion of institutional funds is impacting secondary market liquidity.
Promoters and existing shareholders are also capitalizing on high valuations. A significant portion of the incoming capital is earmarked for Offers for Sale rather than fresh capital expenditure. For instance, ARCIL's ₹733 crore issue is entirely an OFS, while Manipal Payments' ₹805 crore issue includes a ₹485 crore OFS. Harshal Dasani, business head at INVasset PMS, observed that these structures show "existing holders monetising at prices they may not see again."

The Talent War for 'Left-Lead' Regulatory Compliance

The sheer volume of filings and regulatory scrutiny has triggered an intense talent war among investment banks. Boutique advisory firms and major international lenders—including Avendus Capital, Moelis & Co, Rothschild & Co, Societe Generale, and BNP Paribas—are actively looking to expand their "left-lead" equity capital market teams. Left-lead professionals are highly sought after because they directly manage the complex regulatory interface with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
These specialized compliance roles involve drafting the crucial Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP), managing legal correspondence, representing issuers during SEBI query sessions, and coordinating final valuations with stakeholders. As issuers prioritize investment banks with proven regulatory execution capabilities, firms currently focused on ancillary sectors like wealth management are also attempting to build out merchant banking arms through direct lateral hiring.

Subscription Milestones and Upcoming Listings

Ahead of the Wednesday mega-rush, the week's primary market action commenced on Monday, September 7, with the opening of the Pranav Constructions IPO. The real-estate firm, which specializes in Mumbai-based redevelopment projects, is looking to raise ₹351.03 crore with a price band of ₹118 to ₹124. On its first day of bidding, the issue saw strong initial traction, particularly from retail and non-institutional investors, ahead of its scheduled close on September 9.
For the six companies launching on September 9, the tentative timeline slate is highly synchronized. Share allotments for Rentomojo, Karamtara Engineering, and LCC Projects are expected to be finalized on September 15, 2026. If schedules hold, these companies will make their trading debuts on both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on September 17, 2026, marking a major milestone in a historic month for Indian capital markets.
