Central Bank of India has launched Bharat Connect for Business, a specialized digital platform designed to streamline business-to-business invoicing, payments, collections, and settlements in partnership with NPCI Bharat BillPay Ltd. The rollout establishes the institution as the first public sector bank to offer the dedicated commercial payment network, marking a major milestone in expanding institutional financial infrastructure across domestic markets.
The strategic introduction took place during the Global FinTech Fest 2026 in Mumbai, where public sector lenders showcased sweeping technology deployments alongside major foreign currency mobilization efforts. While broader banking system liquidity sat in surplus exceeding ten lakh crore rupees, state-backed institutions utilized high-profile fintech platforms to unveil alternative funding mechanisms and targeted retail systems designed to capture broader commercial market share.
Digital B2B Infrastructure Deployment
The newly introduced Bharat Connect for Business platform integrates disparate commercial workflows into a unified architecture, handling complex invoicing and automated settlement cycles for corporate clients. By partnering with NPCI Bharat BillPay Ltd., Central Bank of India aims to bridge traditional banking channels with advanced digital transaction layers, reducing processing friction for small and medium enterprises as well as large corporate treasuries.
Market observers noted that the platform arrival coincides with an intense push across the public banking sector to modernize legacy corporate banking touchpoints. The digital suite addresses long-standing settlement delays in commercial transactions by utilizing automated clearing mechanics built directly into national payment switches, ensuring immediate reconciliation for participating merchants and corporate entities.
Foreign Currency Mobilization and Credit Growth
Parallel to its digital payment deployments, Bank of India successfully mobilized 2.2 billion US dollars, equivalent to approximately 20,000 crore rupees, through specialized foreign currency deposit initiatives. Bank of India Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Rajneesh Karnatak stated that the funds were raised under the Reserve Bank of India special Foreign Currency Non-Resident deposit mobilization framework.
Karnatak explained that the substantial liquidity injection would largely replace expensive bulk funding sources while covering approximately one quarter of the bank's near-term lending requirements. Despite the massive capital influx and a broader banking system liquidity surplus exceeding 10.43 lakh crore rupees as of September 10, the lender officially retained its full-year credit growth target of 15 to 17 percent.
Unveiling Twelve Digital Innovations
Bank of India separately showcased twelve distinct technological innovations at the fintech gathering, covering advanced digital payments, corporate credit card offerings, programmable digital currency, and automated compliance frameworks. Among the core deployments is UPI Help 2.0, which allows users to view transaction histories and manage dispute mandates across applications through the Omni Neo mobile architecture.
The bank also introduced the Terra Mastercard World Credit Card, a contactless international payment instrument carrying no initial issuance fee and an annual fee of 990 rupees for primary cardholders. Additional self-service installations developed in partnership with Hitachi included Android-based cash recycler machines supporting instant debit card issuance and biometric PIN generations.
Programmable Central Bank Digital Currency
Expanding its footprint in sovereign digital currency experiments, the institution deployed a user-level programmable Central Bank Digital Currency framework. This infrastructure enables digital tokens to be issued with embedded restrictions, including specific merchant categories, geographic limitations, and strict expiry dates designed for targeted subsidy distribution and purpose-bound welfare transfers.
Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra emphasized that financial inclusion and customer-centricity remain paramount priorities for regulatory authorities, noting that fintech collaborations are essential for reducing digital fraud and expanding banking access into rural households. The regulatory framework continues to encourage structured tokenization pilots and secure digital asset settlements across traditional institutional boundaries.
Future Implementation Milestones
Bank of India executives confirmed that the newly launched digital platforms, including the FinTech Connect Portal for open developer registrations and the E-Kosha 2.0 voice-based conversational banking solution, are scaling across domestic branches. Integration testing for interoperable QR-based public transport ticketing and bulk IMPS corporate payment channels is scheduled to proceed through the upcoming operational quarters.
