Ravneet Bittu Alleges Attack on Convoy in Punjab as BJP Launches Anti-Drug Yatra

Former Union Minister and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu reported that his cavalcade was targeted near Batala in Punjab while traveling to Pathankot for a party event. According to Mr. Bittu's office and statements, more than 100 individuals allegedly linked to the Aam Aadmi Party hurled stones and eggs at the convoy.

The incident occurred as the Bharatiya Janata Party prepared to launch its statewide anti-drug campaign titled the Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra. Mr. Bittu alleged that a local legislator named Sherry orchestrated the confrontation to obstruct his participation in the scheduled political itinerary.

In the wake of the altercation, Mr. Bittu's office issued a formal statement placing administrative accountability on state leadership. The statement asserted that the Chief Minister of Punjab and the state Director General of Police would bear responsibility for any harm directed at the BJP leader.

Describing the incident as a direct threat to democratic norms and political security, representatives demanded an immediate governmental inquiry. The office emphasized that state authorities must guarantee unhindered protection for political workers across all affiliations during campaign movements.

BJP national president Nitin Nabin arrived to inaugurate the anti-drug campaign from Pathankot, marking the commencement of a 4,000-kilometer outreach spanning all 117 assembly constituencies in the State. The journey is scheduled to conclude in Jalandhar on September 30.

Mr. Nabin addressed the media through ANI, criticizing successive political administrations for allegedly treating the narcotics trade as a profit-generating venture under political protection. He stated that the ruling establishment had permitted addiction to spread while leaving the youth directionless.

Highlighting the scale of substance abuse, the BJP leadership stated that the 4,000-kilometer yatra aims to unite communities affected by the crisis. Party organizers announced that public events would involve families who have lost relatives to addiction.

The campaign follows a broader nationwide mass movement initiated by the central leadership on August 2. State organizers indicated that the initiative seeks to counter political patronage of the drug trade while engaging working-class families across industrial and agrarian sectors.
