Kanpur Man Beaten To Death With Bricks After Objecting To Public Urination

A 47-year-old shopkeeper in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur died from severe head injuries after a group of four intoxicated youths allegedly assaulted him with bricks and stones for objecting to public urination. The fatal altercation took place late Saturday night near Om Chauraha in the Kakadeo police station area as the victim was returning from his shop.

Police investigations revealed that the victim, identified as Amit Kumar, confronted one of the individuals who began urinating on the roadside. The objection triggered a verbal confrontation, during which the suspects allegedly hurled abuse before surrounding and brutally attacking Kumar with construction debris.

Security camera footage recovered from the vicinity of the incident captured the sequence of the attack in detail. Video evidence reviewed by investigators shows the four suspects swarming Kumar and striking him repeatedly on the head with bricks and stones as he attempted to defend himself.

Passersby attempted to intervene and rescue the shopkeeper during the assault, but the attackers forced their way through and fled the scene before they could be apprehended. Local authorities confirmed that the digital footage forms a core pillar of the ongoing evidentiary record as police work to identify and trace all participants involved in the homicide.

Family members of the deceased gathered outside the local post-mortem house to voice sharp criticism regarding the initial handling of the case. Relatives alleged police negligence, pointing out that no arrests had been made in the immediate aftermath despite clear video documentation of the assault.

According to police records, Kumar was initially brought to a medical facility late on September 5 by his family members, who at the time reported that his critical injuries had resulted from an accidental fall. He was subsequently shifted to a private hospital and later referred elsewhere as his condition deteriorated rapidly before he succumbed to his injuries late Monday evening.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Atul Srivastava outlined the official police timeline and investigative steps during media briefings following the victim's death. Srivastava noted that Kumar was admitted in an injured state late on September 5, with family members initially reporting an accident.

"Amit Kumar passed away during treatment on September 7. Upon receiving this information, the police immediately examined CCTV footage and conducted local inquiries," Srivastava said, speaking to ANI. He added that detailed questioning revealed the victim had been involved in an altercation that led to his fatal injuries.

Local authorities have registered a formal criminal case at the Kakadeo police station under the appropriate legal provisions governing the offense. Four specialized police teams have been constituted to execute raids and track down the fleeing suspects.

Police officials stated that focused local inquiries and technical leads are being pursued to locate the four individuals allegedly under the influence of alcohol during the attack. Investigators expect to make arrests soon as search operations continue across the district.
