Delhi Police have remanded right-wing content creator Swatantra Bhardwaj to one-day police custody following his arrest in connection with a violent assault during a protest at Jantar Mantar. On Saturday, Bhardwaj was produced before the residence of an Additional Sessions Judge, a move that drew criticism from the legal team representing the victim’s family. Advocate Rishav Ranjan, counsel for the minor activist Nishu Azad, questioned the procedural handling of the remand, noting that the legal team was not provided with full details regarding the newly pressed charges or the specific duration of custody requested by the police. Meanwhile, Bhardwaj’s defense counsel, Umesh Sharma, maintained that the shift in venue was necessitated by the addition of sensitive charges, including those under the POCSO Act, which required the involvement of a different magistrate.
