Poppy Playtime Spinoff Escape from Playtime Sets October Early Access Launch on Steam
Mob Entertainment has announced that Escape from Playtime, a co-op survival horror spinoff set within the Poppy Playtime universe, will launch in early access on Steam on October 21. The title allows groups of up to four players to explore the Playtime Co. factory while experiencing the franchise from a new perspective as resident toys.
Unlike asymmetrical multiplayer titles within the horror genre, the new release focuses entirely on cooperative survival mechanics where participants work together to navigate hazardous environments. Players assume the role of Smiling Critters, small-statured characters that can access restricted hiding spaces and scale elevated structures. However, their diminutive physical stature also introduces distinct traversal vulnerabilities when facing facility threats directly.
Gameplay Mechanics and Procedural Environments
The cooperative experience revolves around puzzle-solving, item collection, and environmental exploration under the direction of a mysterious in-game voice. Facilities feature procedurally generated layouts to ensure that traversal paths shift between sessions. Communication relies on proximity chat functionality, meaning that separated squad members must navigate dark environments and reunite without relying on global vocal coordination.
The enemy lineup features core antagonists from the overarching franchise, with promotional material highlighting Miss Delight among the threats lurking within testing laboratories and educational classrooms. While familiarity with the broader narrative enhances context, developers designed the experience to be accessible to newcomers and veteran fans alike.
Early Access Scope and Community Roadmap
The initial early access launch version will feature a single starter zone and an introductory roster of four playable Smiling Critters, with another four unlockable characters bringing the total lineup to eight options at the outset. Developers plan to expand the playable content by introducing additional zones, enemies, and characters throughout the early access period while gathering player feedback to refine the final release version.
Wishlists are currently active on Steam ahead of the October 21 debut, establishing a concrete release milestone just ahead of the Halloween release window.
