Nintendo Designates November 1 as Pikmin Day in Surprise Direct Broadcast

Video game publisher Nintendo and creative director Shigeru Miyamoto declared November 1 as an official annual franchise holiday known as Pikmin Day during a surprise Direct presentation, according to reporting by GameSpot. Miyamoto explained that the initial three character types standing beside each other resemble the digits 11.1, providing the creative inspiration for designating the annual date. The nine-minute broadcast delivered product updates across console and mobile releases rather than presenting an entirely new sequel, IGN reported. Miyamoto stated during the video that the overarching objective is to introduce the broader public to the miniature strategy universe.
Switch 2 Hardware Upgrades and Dandori Academy
The showcase highlighted the upcoming Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition alongside its integrated Dandori Academy mode ahead of its November 12 launch, IGN reported. The upgraded console edition utilizes the built-in hardware microphone on the system, allowing players to vocalize verbal navigation orders to canine helper Oatchi. The Dandori Academy component challenges players to devise optimal spatial routes before undertaking formal testing trials scheduled exclusively on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. A playable demo for the Switch 2 release will be made accessible on November 2, offering access to the Sun-Speckled Terrace tutorial zone and two trial stages with progress data transferable to the complete release.
In Dandori Academy, players can take timed strategy exams held exclusively on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with each session offering a single attempt to determine awarded medals, according to TwistedVoxel.
Mobile Expansion and Secret Caves Mechanics
For mobile players of augmented-reality title Pikmin Bloom, Nintendo outlined an upcoming mechanics update titled Secret Caves arriving this winter, GameSpot noted. Players can locate underground caverns by uncovering special maps affixed to postcards or by completing strategy exams inside the Switch 2 console title. Once dispatched inside a subterranean cave, character teams engage creature opponents, while players can deploy their whistle to pull endangered units back to safety. Triumphant cavern expeditions reward players with collectable treasures that unlock an expanded sector within the personal player museum.
In 2001, Nintendo released the original Pikmin title on the Nintendo GameCube, introducing the red, blue and yellow Pikmin, according to TwistedVoxel.
Media Adaptations and Animated Short Releases
During the broadcast, Miyamoto welcomed Japanese actress Fuka Koshiba, who achieved online attention after sharing hand-knitted Pikmin character headwear on social media, IGN noted. The presentation premiered a fresh animated short film titled Hello Pikmin developed in collaboration with production division Nintendo Pictures. The debut episode features a red character evading an inquisitive amphibian, marking the start of regular monthly releases across the Nintendo Today application following a second release later in November. Nintendo World Report noted that the dedication of an annual holiday reinforces the corporate objective to position the franchise alongside premier corporate intellectual properties.
Nine different Pikmin types have been discovered across the franchise to date, according to TwistedVoxel.
