Google AI Agents Defeat Minecraft Ender Dragon in 27-Hour Run

A team of four Google autonomous artificial intelligence agents successfully conquered Minecraft by defeating the Ender Dragon without human assistance. The autonomous playthrough required slightly more than 27 hours of continuous execution to complete the survival sandbox objective. Operating via the open-source Mineflayer library, each software entity collaborated using textual chat and shared memory architecture. Researchers reported that the system developed, coded, and resolved technical glitches in underlying execution scripts independently without predetermined logic. Human monitors observed gameplay progression through a live administrative interface but refrained from intervening during the campaign. The artificial teammates divided responsibilities dynamically, assigning individuals to build defensive shelters, gather sustenance, and survey surrounding terrain. Over the extended survival session, the squad generated 2,783 custom programs, traded 229 coordination messages, and experienced 605 character deaths. Reaching the final End dimension demanded 13.5 hours, leaving the remaining duration for tactical engagement against the final flying boss. The computational run processed approximately 1.35 billion input tokens, representing roughly 1,620 dollars in equivalent public API consumption expenses. Google DeepMind highlighted the experiment as the first end-to-end autonomous playthrough achieved on standard libraries without pre-scouted world seeds.
Google DeepMind plans to use the same multi-agent setup for coding, science, and robotics work, according to researcher Maxence Faldor.
Up to the win, 91% of the input tokens were served from the context cache, resulting in a compute expense of about $520 at introductory list price.
Two community projects reported earlier Minecraft dragon kills using game-specific tools or fixed, easier setups.
Earlier language-model planners like Voyager focused their long-horizon task execution primarily within the Overworld.
