Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Brings Back Shipment Map and Adds Counter-Strike Style Mode

According to Digital Foundry, activision has officially confirmed that Shipment, one of the most notorious and divisive multiplayer maps in the Call of Duty franchise, will return in the upcoming Modern Warfare 4. The inclusion of the compact map, filled with shipping containers that frequently result in immediate spawn kills and high-intensity chaos, was verified following fan sightings in a newly released PC version trailer and a dedicated post from the official Call of Duty social media account. According to Digital Foundry, while the publisher confirmed the map's return, it has not yet clarified whether Shipment will be part of the initial roster of 12 core 6v6 maps at launch or deployed via a post-release update.
According to Digital Foundry, multiplayer features 12 core 6v6 maps at launch and the Kill Block battleground that generates over 500 layout combinations. According to Call of Duty, modern Warfare 4 for Nintendo Switch 2 was developed natively by Digital Legends in partnership with Infinity Ward, while Beenox handled the PC edition.
Set to launch on October 23, 2026, Modern Warfare 4 arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the Nintendo Switch 2. The release marks a significant platform milestone for the franchise, serving as the first Call of Duty title on a Nintendo system since 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts, while also bypassing older console hardware like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
New Competitive Modes and Tactical Cash Systems
Beyond legacy map returns, Activision detailed a brand-new multiplayer mode named Collateral, which introduces tactical, round-based competition comparable to Counter-Strike and Valorant. Operating as a modification of Search and Destroy, Collateral requires alternating teams to attack and defend two bomb sites while operating under a strict economy system. Players begin matches armed only with a pistol, earning in-game cash through objective play and enemy eliminations to purchase weapon upgrades, armor, perks, and team benefits between rounds.
According to Dexerto, for Call of Duty: Warzone, Warzone players using legacy weapons from MW2 to Black Ops 7 cannot customize attachments via Gunsmith, being limited to fixed five-attachment setups. According to esports.gg, treyarch's Heist mode in Black Ops 4 utilized a matching round-based economy where players began with pistols and bought gear, but suffered from niche player retention.
According to Call of Duty, activision announced Collateral as a new 5v5 round-based multiplayer mode based on Search and Destroy featuring buy rounds and in-match cash mechanics.
The mode removes standard franchise elements including custom loadouts, automatic health regeneration, killstreaks, and respawns, forcing players to manage equipment carefully and retain accumulated cash across rounds despite losing active loadouts upon death. In addition to Collateral, Modern Warfare 4 features another cash-based mode titled Inflation, carrying over the high-stakes Team Deathmatch format showcased during the beta period.
PC Optimizations and Hardware Requirements
Handled by lead developer Beenox, the PC edition of Modern Warfare 4 introduces specialized architecture support, including automatic hardware scaling, multi-display formatting, and sub-frame mouse polling for enhanced aiming precision. The game supports advanced upscaling technologies such as NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR Redstone, Intel XeSS 3, and Filmic SMAA T2X alongside HDR10+ GAMING compatibility.
System requirements for the PC version mandate an SSD across all configurations, starting with a baseline requirement of an AMD Ryzen 5 1400 or Intel Core i5-6600 processor paired with 8 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon RX 470 graphics card. Higher specifications for 90 FPS high-graphics gameplay call for an RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6600 XT, while Ray Tracing 4K upscaled configurations require an RTX 5070 TI or Radeon RX 9070 XT alongside 32 GB of RAM. The RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system integrates hardware-based security protocols, including TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, which are mandatory for play.
Quality-of-Life Adjustments and Platform Preloading
Activision has also instituted several quality-of-life improvements requested by the community, including revisions to double XP token mechanics and the removal of the mandatory restart prompt following minor updates. Warzone integration will additionally incorporate an operator skin filter allowing players to hide disruptive cosmetic items.
Digital pre-loading for the PC version is scheduled to begin on October 15, 2026, ahead of early access availability for campaign players opening on October 16 across Steam, Xbox, and Battle.net platforms.
