Raza Murad Slams Bollywood A-Listers Over Absence at Mushtaq Khan's Funeral
Veteran actor Raza Murad has publicly criticized leading Bollywood stars for their conspicuous absence at the funeral of veteran actor Mushtaq Khan, who passed away on September 24 at the age of 75 following a cancer relapse. Khan's final rites were conducted in Mumbai on September 25, drawing attendance from peers, colleagues, and character actors from across the film industry, but leaving major A-list figures entirely absent from the proceedings.
During his extensive career in cinema, Mushtaq Khan appeared in numerous prominent Hindi films including Welcome and Stree 2, alongside various television programs such as Chacha Chaudhary. Murad asserted that while industry heavyweights readily make time for high-profile weddings hosted by industrialists or mandatory political gatherings, they failed to spare fifty minutes to honor a colleague who dedicated half a century to cinema.
Industry Peers Attend While A-Listers Are Absent
While major commercial stars did not attend, Khan's funeral in Mumbai saw several notable industry colleagues and character artists gather to pay their final respects. Actors Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Mishra, Manish Wadhwa, Shehzad Khan, Zaid Darbar, Rajat Bedi, Annu Kapoor, Sulabha Arya, and comedian Sunil Pal, alongside filmmaker Anees Bazmee, were present to honor the veteran performer.
According to reports from the Press Trust of India and ANI, Khan had been admitted to Nanavati Hospital following health complications, where medical examinations diagnosed him with cancer. Despite ongoing treatment, his condition deteriorated progressively during his hospital stay, culminating in his death on September 24.
Raza Murad Condemns Industry Priorities
In his social media address, Murad drew sharp comparisons between the industry's social obligations and its treatment of lifelong working artists. He claimed that prominent stars would readily attend elite celebrations or serve guests at high-profile functions, yet failed to accord basic respect to a peer with a five-decade career.
Murad noted that Khan established himself entirely on the strength of his professional body of work without resorting to sycophancy or flattering influential figures. Concluding his remarks with a stark warning, Murad stated that the material wealth, fame, and transient status held by current industry stars can fade over time, leaving lasting regret for failing to honor those who built the foundation of the film fraternity.
