Netflix Unveils Trailer for Lust Stories 3 Featuring Four Directors

Netflix has released the official trailer for Lust Stories 3, marking the return of its International Emmy nominated anthology franchise with a scheduled premiere date of September 18. The upcoming installment brings together four prominent filmmakers, namely Vikramaditya Motwane, Kiran Rao, Shakun Batra and Vishal Bhardwaj, who have each directed distinct segments exploring contemporary relationships, intimacy, and personal desire.

The newly revealed trailer features an extensive ensemble cast comprising Radhika Apte, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditi Rao Hydari, Radhika Madan, Sana Thampi, Vijay Varma, Abhishek Banerjee, Siddharth, Ali Fazal and Gurfateh Pirzada. The footage indicates that the anthology will move away from a single narrative framework, instead jumping across four separate storylines that address marital complications, unexpected emotional attractions, and awkward conversational dynamics.

The project maintains the foundational format established by its predecessors by combining multiple directors under a unified thematic umbrella focused on human connection and emotional vulnerability. The inclusion of diverse acting talent allows each segment to pursue a distinct visual and narrative tone ranging from introspective drama to situational comedy. According to promotional materials released by Netflix, the stories aim to examine how modern individuals navigate unspoken tensions and personal choices within various domestic and social arrangements.

The anthology traces its origins to the 2018 release of Lust Stories, which featured contributions from Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Karan Johar alongside actors such as Kiara Advani and Vicky Kaushal. A second iteration followed on the streaming platform in June 2023 under the direction of R Balki, Konkona Sen Sharma, Amit Ravindernath Sharma and Sujoy Ghosh, starring performers like Tamannaah Bhatia, Mrunal Thakur and Neena Gupta. The third chapter builds on this established catalog while introducing a fresh roster of creative voices.

Director Vikramaditya Motwane explained his approach to the project by highlighting the friction between everyday routine and unexpected longings. "What drew me to Lust Stories 3 was the chance to explore what happens when the comfort of everyday life begins to rub up against the desire for something unexpected, and this story allowed me to explore that space with warmth, humour and a little bit of unpredictability," Motwane said regarding his segment.

Fellow director Kiran Rao pointed to the unpredictable consequences of following initial sparks of attraction. "Desire makes us curious, and sometimes willing to take chances we normally wouldn't," Rao noted, adding that the creative freedom provided by the streaming platform enabled her to experiment with tone and character impulses.

Director Shakun Batra emphasized the psychological grey areas inherent in human connections. "For me, the most interesting relationships are the ones where people don't quite know what they're feeling, or how to make sense of it," Batra stated, emphasizing his focus on affection, frustration, and insecurity without offering simplistic resolutions.

Vishal Bhardwaj focused on the imaginative dimensions of longing and self expression. "What fascinates me about desire is how deeply it is connected to imagination, to the stories we tell ourselves, and sometimes the stories we are afraid to tell out loud," Bhardwaj explained, noting that his segment centers on a character discovering her personal voice.

The promotional trailer offers brief character dynamics, including an exchange between Aditi Rao Hydari and her students regarding context and intention. Another scene features Konkona Sen Sharma and Radhika Apte discussing a romantic situation involving characters named Min and Jin, which prompts a humorous reality check from Apte reminding her co-star that they are located in Kandivali rather than Korea.

Additional segments previewed in the trailer feature Radhika Madan and Ali Fazal navigating marital friction, while Siddharth and Vijay Varma appear in separate relationship arcs alongside Abhishek Banerjee and Sana Thampi. The production aims to balance emotional gravity with lighthearted moments as the characters confront their private impulses.
