According to DT Next, the makers of the action drama Om: Chapter 1 have officially announced a new release date for the film, moving its theatrical debut to November 20, 2026. The film, which features a high-profile collaboration between Tamil star Dhanush and Malayalam superstar Mammootty, was originally scheduled for an October 16 release.

According to Cinema Express, om represents Dhanush's second feature release of 2026 and features veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah making his debut in Tamil language cinema. According to Source, om carries the tagline 'Chapter 1', suggesting that the makers may be planning a sequel or a multi-part story.

Strategic Release Shift

The decision to postpone the film was made to avoid a direct box office clash with major upcoming releases. According to Cinema Express, dhanush, who is also producing the film under his Wunderbar Films banner, confirmed that the team opted to move the date to respect the release windows of other significant projects. Specifically, the film was initially set to compete with Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, which is slated for October 15. Furthermore, the makers aimed to avoid the Diwali festival period, which is already occupied by the release of Suriya's film, Scene, scheduled for November 6.

Mammootty marks his return to Tamil cinema with the film following his appearance in Peranbu.

Production and Cast Details

Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, Om: Chapter 1, subtitled Udhiram - The Blood Wood, is being positioned as the first installment of a two-part franchise. The film features an ensemble cast including Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela, and Naseeruddin Shah. Mammootty is reported to play a character named Karthikeyan. The project has been described as one of the largest budget productions in Dhanush's career, with filming locations including Malaysia.

According to DT Next, while some trade reports had speculated about a potential November 26 release date, the official announcement from the production house has confirmed November 20 as the final date for the worldwide theatrical release. The film's title teaser, which previously showcased Dhanush in a role involving red sanders woodcutting, has generated significant interest among fans, marking the first time the two stars have collaborated on screen.
