Arshad Warsi’s New Film Retitled Following CBFC Directive Over Insurance Scheme Similarity

The Arshad Warsi-starrer previously known as Jeevan Bheema Yojana has officially been retitled Jeevan Ya Bheema Con? following a directive from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film, which features the actor in a double role, hit cinemas on September 4, 2026, after the last-minute title change was mandated just three days prior to its scheduled release. The decision to alter the name was driven by concerns regarding its phonetic similarity to the government-backed life insurance scheme, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana.

Beyond the title change, the CBFC’s Examining Committee imposed several modifications to the film’s content to secure a U/A 16+ certification. These adjustments included the removal or modification of specific visuals and dialogues deemed obscene. According to the censor certificate, the film underwent changes in four separate instances involving inappropriate references, while an obscene hand gesture and multiple visuals were also flagged for modification in the post-interval portion of the movie. The final cut of the film, which runs for 119.56 minutes, was passed by the board on September 1, 2026.

The transition from the original title, Jeevan Bheema Yojana, to the new moniker, Jeevan Ya Bheema Con?, was a strategic response to regulatory pressure. Trade sources indicated that the CBFC found the initial title too close to the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, a government-backed insurance initiative. By adding the suffix and the question mark, the makers aimed to distance the film from the official scheme while maintaining the core identity of the project. The change was implemented just 72 hours before the film’s theatrical debut, marking a significant logistical hurdle for the production team during the final stages of their promotional campaign.

Despite the sudden shift, the makers framed the title reveal as part of a unique marketing strategy. They had utilized the original name throughout the promotional phase to build curiosity and intrigue among the audience. The final title, Jeevan Ya Bheema Con?, is intended to better reflect the film’s central themes of deception, crime, and chaos, which are integral to the narrative of the dark comedy.

Jeevan Ya Bheema Con? centers on the lives of two lookalikes, Jeevan and Bheema, both played by Arshad Warsi. The plot follows Jeevan, an ordinary man burdened by debt, who encounters his dangerous doppelgänger, Bheema. Their meeting triggers a series of chaotic events, including a desperate, ill-fated plan to fake Jeevan’s death to claim an insurance payout. The situation escalates when they discover that the man presumed dead has ties to a dangerous diamond-smuggling network.

Arshad Warsi, reflecting on his first experience with a double role, noted the complexity of the project. “It’s a quirky film. The trailer doesn’t really do justice to the film because there is so much more to the story and a lot is happening,” Warsi stated. “It is about two simple people, how they get caught up in a mess, and how they eventually find their way out of it.” The film also stars Sanjeeda Shaikh as Yojana, Jeevan’s resourceful wife, and Vijay Raaz as the mysterious Vinayak, alongside a supporting cast including Pooja Chopra, Bijendra Kala, and the late Atul Parchure.

The film’s journey to the screen was marked by a shift in its release schedule. Initially slated for an August 28, 2026, premiere, the release was pushed back by one week to September 4.
