Ajay Devgn-Starrer Ranger Pushed to 2027, Vacating December Release Slot

The upcoming jungle adventure film Ranger, starring Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, and Tamannaah Bhatia, has been officially postponed to 2027. Originally slated for a December 4, 2026, theatrical release, the production will now target a post-Eid window in March 2027. The shift is intended to align the film release with school and college holiday periods, which producers believe will better suit the nature of the jungle-themed project.

The decision to move Ranger out of the 2026 calendar leaves Ajay Devgn with two major theatrical releases for the year: the previously released Dhamaal 4 and the upcoming thriller Drishyam The Conclusion, which is scheduled to hit cinemas on October 2. According to production sources, the delay allows for a more strategic release window. The film, directed by Jagan Shakti and produced by Luv Ranjan, centers on a forest officer played by Devgn who battles a poaching syndicate led by Sanjay Dutt character. The production team recently completed the film climax in Mumbai and is planning to film a special dance sequence featuring Devgn and Bhatia.

With Ranger vacating the December 4 date, the theatrical landscape for the final month of 2026 has shifted. The untitled comic caper directed by Anees Bazmee, starring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, and Raashii Khanna, is now set to occupy the slot. This film will face direct competition from the Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Eetha. While there had been speculation regarding the release of the Prabhas-led period action drama Fauzi on December 3, trade reports suggest that it may also be postponed to 2027, potentially leaving the December roster to be dominated by the Kumar-Balan and Kapoor projects.

Luv Ranjan, in an earlier interview, highlighted the significance of the casting, noting that despite their long careers, Devgn and Dutt had not previously collaborated on an action film. The project, which focuses on wildlife conservation and the fight against illegal poaching, represents a significant departure from the genres typically associated with the lead actors recent work. The makers have yet to announce a final 2027 date, pending the completion of the remaining production schedule.
