Kia Launches Sorento SUV in India at Rs 27.99 Lakh, Marking Brand Entry Into Premium Three-Row Segment

Kia India has officially entered the domestic premium three-row SUV market with the launch of the Sorento, unveiled at a convention centre event in Hyderabad. The vehicle arrives with an introductory ex-showroom pricing structure starting at Rs 27.99 lakh for the diesel variant and Rs 29.49 lakh for the petrol-hybrid model, establishing a fresh competitive benchmark against established multi-passenger sport utility vehicles.

As the South Korean manufacturer's maiden hybrid offering within the country, the vehicle combines high-displacement engine architecture with electrified propulsion options. Manufactured locally at the company production facility located in Anantapur, the model expands the brand footprint following previous market deployments including the Seltos, Sonet, Syros, EV6, Carens, and Carnival.

The Sorento introduces two distinct powertrain configurations tailored for varied driving dynamics. The 1.6-litre Turbo GDI petrol-hybrid system generates 180 PS of engine power alongside 265 Nm of torque, working in tandem with an electric motor delivering an additional 65 PS and 264 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the alternative Smartstream 2.2-litre diesel configuration produces 193 PS of peak power and a robust 442 Nm of torque.

Both engine options are paired with all-wheel-drive capabilities, making the Sorento the first utility vehicle in its specific segment to offer all-wheel drive alongside a hybrid powertrain architecture. This mechanical setup addresses consumer demand for heavy-duty traction combined with fuel efficiency, positioning the vehicle distinctively against non-hybrid competitors in the domestic marketplace.

Measuring 4,815 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and featuring a 2,815 mm wheelbase, the vehicle is noted for its extensive physical proportions within its class. Official launch disclosures indicate that the Sorento maintains a higher stance and larger overall dimensions than several prominent category rivals.

Competing models cited in regional launch materials include the Toyota Innova Hycross, Mahindra 7XO, Tata Safari, MG Hector Tomahawk, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, and Jeep Meridian. The generous wheelbase accommodates flexible six-seat and seven-seat cabin configurations distributed across three primary base trim levels.

Inside the cabin, the model is structured across three primary base trims designated as HTE, HTK, and the premium HTX tier. Each grade incorporates multiple feature options and distinct upholstery styling to separate the luxury offerings from base variants.

Lower trim levels feature Smoky Black and Grey two-tone interior appointments paired with durable leatherette seats, whereas premium tiers adopt a sophisticated Premium Black and Olive Brown two-tone color scheme. Exterior styling encompasses nine total choices, comprising eight monotone options such as Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Gray, Imperial Blue, Magma Red, Pewter Olive, Ivory Silver Gloss, Aurora Black Pearl, and a matte Dark Gun Metal finish, alongside an entirely blacked-out premium trim option.

Tech integration represents a central focus of the India-spec model, highlighted by the debut of the proprietary Kia AI Assistant. The system incorporates real-time generative artificial intelligence capabilities, marking the first time such conversational technology has been deployed in this segment.

Vehicle occupants can utilize conversational queries, execute real-time information searches, and manage select vehicle controls through voice commands. Additional technology suites include thirty Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance Systems functions, up to 10 airbags, a 360-degree camera, ventilated seating for both the first and second rows, relaxation seats, and Remote Smart Parking Assist.

Manufacturing operations are anchored at Kia India's Anantapur facility, ensuring localized output to meet initial domestic demand. Nationwide customer deliveries commenced immediately following the rollout schedule on September 4.

Company leadership expects the new Sorento to sustain commercial momentum across the Indian automotive sector, building upon the established sales foundation set by its predecessors. Dealership networks across major metropolitan areas have initiated reservation bookings and test-drive appointments following the formal weekend introduction in Hyderabad.
