Foxconn Buys $727M Half Stake in Mitsubishi Electric Mobility Unit

Foxconn Acquires Half of Mitsubishi Electric Mobility
Taiwan electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn agreed to purchase a fifty percent stake in Mitsubishi Electric's automotive parts subsidiary for 727 million dollars. Formal corporate filings from Hon Hai Precision Industry revealed that subsidiary Lin Yin International Investment signed the binding partnership contract. The corporate partners plan to operate the acquired automotive components business as an equal joint venture. The transaction provides Foxconn with an established manufacturing foothold in the global automotive sector as it extends contract assembly into electric mobility. Mitsubishi Electric originally carved out its dedicated automotive components group into Mitsubishi Electric Mobility in April 2024. The target subsidiary functions as an established Tier-1 automotive supplier manufacturing traditional ignition hardware alongside emerging electric traction components. Prior to the formal closing date, the parent company will consolidate its broader international automotive divisions directly into the combined venture. Industry analysts noted that this unified corporate entity forms the comprehensive target of Foxconn's strategic equity investment.
Valuation Metrics and Joint Venture Governance Structure
Financial terms assign the target enterprise a valuation of 320 billion yen, equivalent to approximately two billion dollars. The equity value of the specialized components business stands at 230 billion yen under the agreed purchase framework. Corporate executives anticipate closing the transaction on October 1, 2027, following mandatory multi-jurisdiction antitrust regulatory clearances. The transaction represents Foxconn's most substantial financial commitment toward establishing commercial automotive manufacturing credibility.
Co-Development of Japanese Electric Vehicle Platforms
The venture combines Mitsubishi Electric's electric powertrain and vehicle control engineering with Foxconn's global production scale. The alliance intends to market customized electric vehicle skateboards directly to Japanese carmakers before expanding sales globally. Chief strategy officer Jun Seki stated that Mitsubishi Electric's electronic control technology served as the core attraction for the deal. The executive emphasized that Foxconn intends to utilize the enterprise as its primary industrial anchor in Japan. Automotive leadership plans to market completed skateboard architectures domestically before expanding customer outreach to multinational vehicle producers.
Over the medium to long term, the alliance aims to expand Japanese technologies into global markets.
Revenue Projections and Strategic Footprint in Asia
The partners established an aggressive commercial revenue target exceeding one trillion yen for the fiscal year beginning April 2030. Projected annual sales represent approximately 6.3 billion dollars in gross automotive receipts under the joint operational roadmap. Securing a high-tier Japanese automotive supplier enables Foxconn to bypass lengthy Tier-1 qualification cycles with legacy automakers. The cross-border joint venture solidifies Foxconn's transformation from consumer electronics assembly toward heavy industrial vehicle technology.
