Bajaj Chetak C2501 Real-World Range Tested in Mumbai Traffic

The Bajaj Chetak C2501, positioned as an affordable electric scooter priced at Rs 1.05 lakh ex-showroom Mumbai before subsidies, has undergone real-world range testing in urban traffic conditions. Equipped with Eco and Sport riding modes designed primarily for range optimization, the scooter limits Eco top speeds to an indicated 45 kph and Sport speeds to 60 kph, with switching handled via a dedicated button.
The 2.5kWh battery powers the entry variant in the Chetak lineup, offering accessible urban mobility. The Bajaj Chetak C2501 features a battery capacity of 2.5 kWh.
Autocar India published an independent road test of the Bajaj Chetak C2501 through South Mumbai traffic, recording a verified range of 86.5 km in Sport mode with an efficiency of 34.6 km/kWh.
Autocar India evaluators observed that combining Eco and Sport modes rather than riding solely in Sport mode allows riders to cruise comfortably with traffic while extending battery range. The Chetak C2501 delivers 86.5 km real-world range when tested in its higher-output Sport mode.
Testing conducted along a route in South Mumbai in Sport mode yielded a total riding range of 86.5 kilometers on a single charge. The vehicle delivered an efficiency figure of 34.6 km/kWh during the evaluation.
Battery Performance and Limp Mode Behavior
The test commenced with a 100 percent state of charge and an initial dashboard range estimate of 112 kilometers in Sport mode. Performance remained consistent throughout the run, with the scooter maintaining Sport mode until the battery dropped to 10 percent, at which point it automatically switched to Eco mode.
When the battery level reached 5 percent, the vehicle entered limp mode, indicated by a tortoise icon on the instrument cluster, which restricted speed to 35 kph. After the range indicator and state-of-charge meter reached zero, the scooter continued operating for an additional 2.5 kilometers before noticeable power reduction prompted testers to conclude the run at 86.5 kilometers.
Charging Times and Usability
Replenishing the battery utilizes a 750W off-board charger capable of completing a full 0 to 100 percent charge cycle in 3 hours and 18 minutes. Evaluators noted that utilizing a mixed regime combining Eco and Society modes could yield additional range extension in daily commuting scenarios.
