VIT-AP University Honors Unsung Heroes on Independence Day

VIT-AP University celebrated India's 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026, by recognizing nine individuals as unsung heroes for their distinguished service. These honorees included personnel from the National Disaster Response Force, municipal services, and the medical sector, alongside staff from the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation and local police. Each recipient was awarded a memento and a cash prize of ₹25,000 for their dedication to public safety and service.

The ceremony highlighted the critical role of frontline workers in maintaining civic order and safety. Police officers were specifically acknowledged for their life-saving interventions, including rescues during recent climate-related emergencies such as Cyclone Montha. Additionally, 31 housekeeping staff and 10 security personnel at the university received certificates of appreciation, underscoring the institution's commitment to acknowledging support staff within its academic community.

The event was attended by Matli Venu Gopal Reddy, IAS, Director of the Department of Women Development and Child Welfare, who presided as the Chief Guest and conducted the flag-hoisting ceremony. This initiative highlights the growing trend of academic institutions integrating national celebrations with grassroots social recognition. By honoring those who operate in the background, VIT-AP University aims to foster a culture of gratitude and civic responsibility among its student body as the nation marks another year of independence.
