Vinfast Patents Viper E-Scooter and New Motorcycle in India

The Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer Vinfast has filed design patents in India for two new electric two-wheelers: the Viper e-scooter and an electric motorcycle modeled after its previously revealed Sulad concept. These filings suggest that the company is planning a more extensive entry into the Indian market than its initial announcement of just three electric scooters suggested. The move signals a strategic shift to diversify its Indian portfolio with both commuter-focused scooters and high-performance electric motorcycles.

The patented Viper e-scooter mirrors the production model sold in Vietnam, featuring angular body panels, five-spoke alloy wheels, and a hub-mounted motor. Reports indicate it is typically equipped with a 4.8kWh battery and a 3kW motor. The second patent, which resembles the Sulad concept, represents a more ambitious play in the motorcycle segment. While technical details remain limited, industry speculation suggests the potential for a 50kW-rated motor capable of reaching top speeds of 130kph, positioning it as a premium performance offering.

Vinfast’s decision to patent these models marks a significant expansion of its 2026 launch roadmap for India. By securing intellectual property for both the mass-market Viper and the performance-oriented concept motorcycle, the firm demonstrates its intent to target diverse segments of the rapidly evolving electric two-wheeler industry in India.
