Uttarakhand Monsoon Storms: 46 Dead As Landslides Strike

The Uttarakhand government has issued a 24-hour high alert across the state following a series of devastating cloudbursts and continuous heavy rainfall. According to official reports, at least 46 people have lost their lives as floods and landslides ravage several districts. In Dehradun, authorities ordered the immediate closure of all schools and Anganwadi centers to ensure student safety. The Indian Meteorological Department predicts that intense precipitation will persist, making the next 48 hours critical for rescue operations.

The impact of the monsoon has been severe on the state's infrastructure, with numerous roads blocked by debris. In a significant incident, a massive boulder crashed into a government residential unit, causing extensive structural damage though no casualties were reported from that specific site. Landslides have also cut off several remote villages in the higher reaches of the Himalayas, hampering the delivery of essential supplies. Rescue teams from the SDRF and NDRF are working around the clock to clear vital highways and evacuate residents from high-risk zones.

The state administration has advised tourists to postpone their travel plans to the region until weather conditions stabilize. The ongoing Char Dham Yatra has been partially disrupted in certain stretches due to unpredictable road conditions. Emergency control rooms are monitoring water levels in major rivers, including the Ganga and Alaknanda, which are flowing near the danger mark. For residents in low-lying areas, the government has established temporary shelters and is preparing for further evacuations as the monsoon system intensifies over North India.
